The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have reportedly left members of their London circle ‘horrified’ as they contemplate a move to Berkshire.

The royal couple currently split their time between their official London home, Kensington Palace, and their weekend retreat at Amner Hall in Norfolk, and are said to be ready to move on, as living in the suburbs has “total sense”.

According to the Telegraph, the couple, who are parents to eight-year-old Prince George, Princess Charlotte, six-year-old Prince Louis, and three-year-old Prince Louis, are considering a move to Windsor and are interested in the Fort Belvedere residence.

It was built between 1750 and 1755 for Prince William Augustus and is located in Windsor Great Park.

According to MyLondon, it was built in the Gothic Revival architectural style and many members of the royal family affectionately referred to the house as “The Fort”.

George IV greatly enlarged the house, adding an octagonal dining room, a three-story annex, and a large flagpole.

In 1929, it became the home of Prince Edward, Prince of Wales, who later became Edward VIII, and is where he signed his abdication papers in 1936.

The Telegraph writes: “Her London circle is horrified. What is the matter with Anmer Hall, her 10-bedroom weekend home in Norfolk, and so are her green friends, who consider this corner of Berkshire not a appropriate and terribly unpleasant field”.

The couple are reportedly “seriously considering” moving to Windsor.

However, a source told the newspaper: “People can be very cocky about that area of west London, but that is mainly due to ignorance.

“It’s picturesque and it’s also significantly close to the city, unlike other parts of the local counties.”

Last year, it was reported that William and Kate were “seriously considering” moving to Windsor to be closer to the Queen and royal decision-making.

A move to Windsor would also bring them closer to Kate’s family, who are based not far away in Bucklebury.

A source told the Mail on Sunday at the time: “Anmer Hall made sense while William was a helicopter pilot in East Anglia and was useful for Christmas at Sandringham, but it doesn’t really work anymore.

“It’s a bit far for weekends, but Windsor is a perfect compromise. They’re looking at options in the area.”
