Much-hyped new Marvel movie Morbius is out in cinemas today. Starring Jared Leto as the titular vampire, the film promises that ‘the line between hero and villain will be broken’.
Leto’s character is Dr Michael Morbius – a scientist suffering from a rare blood disease. His desperate search for a cure leads him to embark on a dangerous experiment that afflicts him with a form of vampirism.
Morbius gains superhuman abilities – with none of the superstitious weaknesses associated with vampires. But he finds he does have to feast on the blood of the living to survive.

That conflict of being a hero with a thirst for blood is at the center of the film. It is based on the Marvel character Morbius, the Living Vampire, who first appeared as a villain in The Amazing Spider-Man comic book series in 1971.
Leto is no stranger to comic book roles, having starred as The Joker in 2016’s Suicide Squad. There are some other well-known names in the cast too – including an actor very familiar to British TV fans. The Morbius cast includes:
Leto, 50, rose to fame in the 1990s appearing on TV series My So-Called Life. Numerous film roles followed – including Fight Club, American Psycho and Requiem for a Dream.
He won an Oscar for his role as a transgender woman in the 2013 film The Dallas Buyers Club. More recently he earned critical acclaim for her role in 2021’s House of Gucci.
Smith stars as Milo – Morbius’ surrogate brother who suffers from the same rare blood disease. But when he gains the same abilities as Morbius, Milo embraces the darkness and becomes a villain.
Smith is perhaps best known for his roles as the eleventh incarnation of the Doctor in BBC favorite Doctor Who and Prince Philip in Netflix series The Crown. His first major role in television came as Danny in the 2007 BBC series Party Animals.
Arjona stars as Martine Bancroft, a scientist and Morbius’ fiancee. The 29-year-old Puerto Rican actress played the role of Dorothy Gale in the Oz book adaptation of Emerald City and role of Anathema Device in the TV adaptation of Good Omens.
Harris plays Nicholas Morbius, a mentor figure to both Michael and Milo, who runs a facility that provides care to the terminally ill. The 60-year-old English actor is known for his roles as Lane Pryce in Mad Men and King George VI in The Crown.
Keaton stars as Adrian Toomes/Vulture – a character that has previously appeared in the 2017 film Spider-Man: Homecoming. Toomes is a former salvage worker turned villain.
Keaton, 70, is an internationally-renowned actor – having played Batman in the two Tim Burton superhero movies in 1989 and 1992. He has appeared in numerous TV shows and films over the years – including a critically acclaimed performance in black comedy Birdman.
Gibson stars as Simon Stroud, an FBI agent tasked with catching Morbius and ending his trail of terror. The 43-year-old American actor is best known for his long-standing role in the Fast & Furious film franchise. He also plays Robert Epps in the Transformers franchise.
Madrigal plays Al Rodriguez, Stroud’s FBI partner. The 50-year-old American comedian is known for his roles in Ben Affleck drama The Way Back and Jim Carrey-produced series I’m Dying Up Here.
