Getting away to somewhere warm is a priority for many as further Omicron travel restrictions have been lifted in Scotland.
Nicola Sturgeon announced on Tuesday that pre-arrival covid tests for fully vaccinated travelers will be a thing of the past from February 11.
The pre-departure testing requirement has already ended on January 10, so the move to end post-arrival testing will make holidays in 2022 much simpler and cheaper.
With cold, dark days upon us, wanderlust Scots will already feel the need to escape to warmer places.
Scotland’s average February high is 5.5C, but relaxation of travel rules has paved the way for an easier way to fly somewhere hot.

Warm winter vacation destinations
Tenerife, Spain

Spain is one of the most popular winter holiday destinations for Brits for this very reason.
You will not need to be tested or quarantined to enter the country, although vaccination requirements in Spain will change on February 1; see what you need to know here.
Located off the coast of northwest Africa, Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands, where February temperatures average 20 C.
Other destinations in the Canary Islands such as La Palma and Lanzarote are equally hot at this time of year.
Fortunately, the Scots can be there in four and a half hours via budget airlines such as easyJet, Ryanair, Jet2 and TUI.

The Algarve, Portugal

The southernmost region of Portugal is the Algarve, known for its picturesque golden cliffs and sandy beaches.
If you fancy a trip to the beach this winter, the Algarve’s spectacular coastline has plenty to offer couples, groups of friends, and even families.
The average February high here is 20C and Scots can catch a direct flight to Faro in just three hours with Ryanair from Edinburgh or Prestwick airport.

Malta, the island country in the middle of the Mediterranean, is a fabulous destination not only for its crystal clear waters, but also as a cultural and gastronomic destination.
That’s not to mention that Malta hosts its own Carnival every February and this year’s celebrations take place from February 25 to March 1.
The small archipelago reaches an average high of 16C in February and people in Scotland can fly direct from Edinburgh in just under four hours with Ryanair.
Orlando, Florida

Florida is one of the most popular long-haul destinations for Brits for many reasons.
A big draw for people of all ages is its many theme parks, from Disneyworld to Harry Potter and, of course, the sun and heat.
Average temperatures reach 23C in February, enough to make a Scot sweat.
