Missiles hit apartment block in Ukraine port city of Odessa
Russia has announced it will deploy its “Satan II” missile by the autumn, a day after Russian forces launched a missile strike on the southern Ukrainian city of Odesa.
The recently tested missile can carry 10 or more nuclear warheads and decoys and can strike targets thousands of thousands away, with experts warning that the missile could hit the UK, as well as Europe and the US.
Vladimir Putin claims it’s impossible to defend the missile with current technology. During a video briefing with defense officials, he said: “The new complex has the highest tactical and technical characteristics and is capable of overcoming all modern means of anti-missile defence.
“It has no analogues in the world and won’t have for a long time to come.”
The announcement comes just a day after eight people, including a three-month-old baby were killed after a Russian missile attack in Odessa. The victims died after two missiles struck a military facility and two residential buildings.

Russian consulate in New York introduces austerity measures
Russia’s Consulate-General in New York has had to use the reserve of cash at its disposal and has resorted to austerity measures after its account in the Bank of America was blocked in March, said state news agency TASS.
The consulate has since remained fully operational, said the acting Consul-General Vyacheslav Slavkin.
“Before all that happened, we created a certain cash reserve in anticipation of some unpleasant things that might occur. The cash we have enables us, on the condition we take austerity measures, to pay the electricity and utility bills and for car fuel, to a certain extent, although we have restricted the use of motor transport. Also, we can pay salary to our staff,” he said.
Earlier today Russia’s ambassador to the US, Anatoly Antonov, said the Bank of America closed the accounts of Russia’s general consulates in Houston and New York and the embassy was in fact “blockaded by US government structures”.

The artist retrieving bodies in Ukraine’s Bucha
“I have collected a lot of bodies, more than 100,” said Vlad Minchenko, a Ukrainian artist who’s retrieving dead bodies around the town of Bucha.
The grim work for Minchenko and a small group of others began under occupation as the bodies scattered in streets or hurriedly dumped in yards apparently became too much even for the Russians. But the work was dangerous.

Vlad Minchenko wakes every day with trembling hands. For hours, until it eases, he can’t message on his phone or even consider his previous work of making art or tattoos. But he can continue to retrieve bodies, scores of bodies, around the Ukrainian town of Bucha as part of a task that continues more than three weeks after Russian forces withdrew.
