Troon marina ranked among the best in the world after special 5 Gold Anchors accolade

An Ayrshire marina has been ranked among the best in the world after a golden report saw it achieve a top accolade.

throne Yacht Haven has earned a highly-acclaimed 5 Gold Anchors award after a major £1.5 million investment.

Judges were left dazzled by its latest state-of-the-art features including a plush new hotel which has raked in near-perfect reviews since opening during lockdown.

The top rating was presented to Troon by The Yacht Harbor Association (TYHA) – a world-renowned quality assurance scheme which ranks marinas either 2, 3, 4 or 5 stars.

And the idyllic venue, which offers over 400 pontoon berths and a modern slipway, was put through a rigorous audit including “mystery shopping” to earn its prize.

Marina bosses have praised the “staunch efforts” of the South Ayrshire team.

Stephen Bennie, director at Troon said: “We’re delighted and extremely proud of our prestigious award.

“Thanks to significant investment and extensive work from the team – who’ve carried on quietly and professionally with no inconvenience to customers – our marina now reflects Troon Yacht Haven’s commitment to excellence.”

The team in Troon were praised for upgrading and improving every aspect including free wifi, a lounge room for berth holders and charging ports for electric cars.

Security has also been ramped up at the marina with a new CCTV system in place whilst eco-friendly LED lights around berths have provided further reassurance.

Waves of praise were also sent to Scott’s Bar and Restaurant and Salt Lodge Hotel with the latter boasting picturesque room views overlooking the marina and the Firth of Clyde.

Judges booked in for the night at the hotel which has scored 9.5/10 from 270 reviews on since opening.

Troon berth holder Steve Lunnon said: “It’s great to see re-investment in the marina. By far the best marina, boatyard and staff we’ve ever come across.

“The facilities are spotless, the boatyard clean, safe, and tidy and the staff go the extra mile, regularly checking boats and lines, especially in big winds.

“We’ve witnessed from the get-go; the team strikes that perfect balance between professional and friendly. It’s fabulous they’ve got their 5 Gold Anchors.”
