Manchester United have held talks with Erik ten Hag to discuss the potential of the Dutch manager taking over at Old Trafford. The news has sent many fans into hysterics and many have been discussing what his arrival from him could mean for the current squad.
One player who many fans feel may be in danger is David de Gea. At Ajax, Ten Hag has expected his goalkeepers — whether it be Andre Onana or Remko Pasveer at Ajax — to be proactive both in and out of possession, acting as part of the build-up when their team has the ball and coming out of their box to clear through-balls.
Despite De Gea’s great recent form and shot-stopping ability, his distribution and ability to prevent goalscoring opportunities has come under question. Dean Henderson is more in the mold of a keeper that Ten Hag would be used to using, but it seems the young Englishman may look to leave in the summer, so United may need to recruit a new keeper.

If they do who could United sign? MEN Sport have a look at three potential targets here:
Sanchez was the choice in our transfer breakdown series and he would seem to also be the choice of Luis Enrique, being picked over De Gea for Spain’s national team fixtures this international break. The keeper currently plays for Brighton and would likely cost around £30m given the reported fees for Tariq Lamptey and also how much the team commanded from Arsenal for Ben White.
As part of Graham Potter’s system he sees a lot of the ball and is required to distribute out quickly to allow Brighton to begin their counterattacks, as seen in the 3-3 draw with Liverpool and the 1-1 draw with Chelsea this season. Sanchez also has a better save percentage than De Gea, with 72.1 per cent to the current United keepers 71.9 per cent.
At 24, he would present a good option for the future, someone who could be the starting keeper for years to come.
And now the other Premier League keeper who has taken a place in the Spain squad ahead of De Gea — despite spending most of the season injured. Raya currently plays for Brentford and some have argued the Bees’ current threat of relegation could be down to the keeper’s absence.
If Brentford were to go down it is likely it wouldn’t cost much to sign Raya and this could play into United’s hands. Raya is very similar to Sanchez in that he is a modern Spanish goalkeeper who likes the ball at his feet and acts as the 11th man in the build-up.
Given that Ten Hag would arrive from the Eredivise, you’d expect that he would likely return there to make one or two signings. With Onana moving to Inter Milan on a free transfer, the perfect upgrade is no longer available but Feyenoord keeper Bijow could offer a different solution.
The 24-year-old is already a Dutch international and has been a key part of Feyenoord’s form this season. He has played 22 games conceding the same number of goals and keeping nine clean sheets with a save percentage of 72.7 per cent.
He is aggressive off his line to close down shooting angles and looks to claim anything that comes into his area. The only issue that United may have is his checked injury record of him.
