The PSE-EE celebrates its IX Congress this weekend at the Euskalduna Palace in Bilbao, in which Eneko Andueza will take over from Idoia Media as general secretary. The new leader of the Euskadi Socialists will be supported by the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez.

“A new beginning”. It is the motto chosen by the PSE-EE to celebrate the IX Congress of the party in which Eneko Andueza from Eibar will take over from Idoia Mendia at the head of the party’s general secretariat. The conclave, which will take place on November 20 and 21 at the Euskalduna Palace in Bilbao, will serve to give the green light to the political presentation that will mark the roadmap of the Basque Socialists to face the challenges of the coming years.

The opening of the Congress, at 10:00 a.m., will be carried out by the spokesperson for the Government of Spain and Minister of Territorial Policy, Isabel Rodríguez, and at 11:30 a.m. the speech of the outgoing leader and second vice-lehendakari of the Basque Government will take place. , Idoia Mendia. The latter will undoubtedly be one of the most outstanding speeches since Mendia will give an account of his management and will pronounce his last words as leader of the PSE-EE.

In the afternoon, in addition to the debates on the political and organizational presentations, two meetings are scheduled between the new secretary general of the PSE-EE with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, and the Minister of Science and Innovation, Diana Morant.

Sánchez in the closing ceremony

On Sunday, after the voting for the election of the new Executive Committee of the PSE-EE, it will be the closing ceremony in which Andueza and the President of the Government of Spain and Secretary General of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, will intervene. Likewise, at the IX Congress, in which 354 delegates will participate, the presence of prominent guests such as the President of Navarra, María Chivite, has been confirmed.

Andueza was elected, on October 30, by the militants of the PSE-EE as their new secretary general, with 95.30% of the votes. The forecast that placed the Eibar politician as a clear favorite to be Mendia’s successor in the General Secretariat was thus fulfilled.

Interviewed this week in Euskadi Irratia, Andueza stated that in the next regional elections in Euskadi it will be seen “what strength” citizens give with their votes to each party and that they will “explore” the possibilities of pacts “with others”, starting from the basis of “for what and not with whom”. In this sense, he has assured that the PSE is “a serious party and that, if it gives its word, it fulfills it”, in reference to the current pact it has with the PNV in the Basque Government.

It has indicated that the agreements it maintains with EH Bildu in Gipuzkoan municipalities, such as Irun or Eibar, are “very specific agreements, in specific places and around specific projects”, and that “time will give us the clues as to whether we are prepared or not for big things “, although he has insisted that” the responsibility we have in the short and medium term is what it is and we are going to fulfill it. “

In reference to the Government of Spain, he stressed that the Government of Spain “is very strong, a good government”, that “without a doubt” will come to exhaust the legislature, and has considered that, “logically, in governments between different there are always quarrels, tensions and different points of view “, something that, in his opinion,” is beneficial for everyone to show where they are. “
