The price of fuel drops by about 20 cents on average when collecting the Government discount

The average gas price of 95 this week reaches 1,613 euros per liter, while that of diesel oil arrives at 1,647 euros. Exactly, they are 20 cents less than last week in the case of gasoline and 19 cents in the case of diesel. Thus, both have become cheaper by 10% and are, on average, below the barrier of 1.65 euros.

In both cases, this Thursday’s price includes the discount of 20 cents approved by the Government since April 1, a bonus that drivers can already benefit from directly at the time of refueling until June 30.

It reaches its most expensive price in a Holy Week

The price of fuel will be the highest in history in a Holy Week, despite the reduction of 20 cents per liter. The average price of a liter of gasoline and diesel, counting the reduction, has fallen to 11.27%, although it remains at levels never seen for this holiday, which happens to be the first big ‘macro bridge’ of the year.

Specifically, the average price of a liter of gasoline has fallen by 11.27% compared to last week, while diesel has fallen by 10.34% compared to seven days ago.

The effects of the bonus are a respite for drivers, who will cost almost 11 euros less to fill the deposit. However, this will not prevent this from being the most expensive Easter in history for drivers, also coinciding with the fact that it will be the first since 2019 with mobility without restrictions due to the coronavirus.

Thus, after two years in which displacements have been conditioned by the pandemic, between April 8 and 18 14.6 million trips are expected long-haul in the country, 2.10% less than in Easter 2019, according to data from the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT).

Filling the deposit costs 16 euros more than in Easter 2021

The average price of gasoline and diesel for these dates will be 22.2% and 38.4%respectively, more expensive than Easter 2021. In addition, it will be 22.2% and 33.9%, respectively, higher than its 2019 price, the last holiday that took place without mobility restrictions.

Thus, the Filling a 55 liter tank with petrol now costs around 88.71 eurossome 16.11 euros more than in Easter last year and from 2019.

In the case of refueling with diesel oilit amounts to about 90.58 euros to fill a 55-liter tank, about 25.13 euros more than in Easter 2021 and about 22.93 euros more than in 2019.

A drop driven by the reduction of 20 cents per liter

Since the early hours of last April 1, filling the tank is 20 cents cheaper per liter of fuel -of which the State assumes 15 cents and the big oil companies a minimum of 5 cents-. This measure affects all drivers in Spain and corresponds to the bonus approved by the Government within the National Plan to deal with the economic effects of the war in Ukraine. In this case, this aid tries to alleviate the rise in fuel prices, something that has affected all drivers.

This discount becomes effective at the time of payment at gas stations and is reflected in the ticket of the client and some users have explained that they have noticed a discount of almost 10 euros at the time of filling the tank completely. An aid that relieves drivers’ pockets, although many continue to describe it as insufficient before the increase in price that has suffered more acutely during the development of the conflict in Ukraine.

The gas stations will appeal the measure to the Justice

In this scenario, gas stations continue to suffer problems with your computer systems in order to apply this discount. In the case of small and independent stationsmany of them have explained that they do not know if they will be able to afford this measure financially because they cannot advance the discount while they wait for the advance from the Government to arrive in their accounts.

For this reason, this Wednesday the Spanish Confederation of Service Station Employers (CEEES) has announced that it is going to appeal to the Justice the Government Decree that obliges stations to apply the 20-cent reduction. According to the employers, although they agree to mitigate the economic impact of the war in Ukraine on consumers, “cannot agree on the way in which this measure has been designed and executed“.

For this reason, the vice president of the employers’ association, Fernando Mena, explained this Thursday to Canal 24 Horas that they are in favor of the bonus, but not how it has been articulated. Therefore, they ask that the Decree Law “be reformed and clarified.”

Regarding this, the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, assured this Tuesday that 80% of the gas stations would begin to collect the advance “in the next 48 hours”, that is, until this Friday.

In the wake of oil prices

The increase in the price of fuel, especially in the last month and a half, has been registered within the framework of the rebound in the price of a barrel of Brent, which after the beginning of the war in Ukraine climbed to 131 dollars. This Thursday it was trading above 101 dollars. In the case of the American Texas, the barrel was exchanged at almost 96.5 dollars.

A) Yes, the evolution in the price of crude oil is not transferred directly to gasoline pricesbut does so with a time offset.

The price of fuel depends on multiple factors, such as its specific price (independent of oil), the evolution of crude oil, taxes, the cost of raw materials and logistics, and gross margins.
