Iñigo Urkullu considers that it is not effective to make “isolated” decisions with respect to other autonomous communities. Denis Itxaso, on the other hand, assures that if the Lehendakari does not take more measures, it is not because he does not have powers, but because within the CAV there is no consensus for it.

Iñigo Urkullu stressed this Thursday that he does not rule out promoting restrictions after Christmas, but always with the endorsement of the courts. “I will continue to analyze day by day the possibility of having to promote measures, but always with legal certainty, which is what we are obliged to do,” the Lehendakari insisted.
It thus renounces to adopt new measures “for the moment” in the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) to contain the spread of covid-19, considering that “it is not effective to “make” isolated “decisions with respect to other autonomous communities.
“It is not a question of their own competences, but of common sense. We already have the lesson of last year. You cannot put some measures in some autonomies and in those around not,” he said.
Urkullu made these statements upon his arrival at the plenary session of the Basque Parliament after yesterday in the Conference of Presidents his proposal to adopt common measures for all the autonomous communities in order to stop the advance of the sixth wave of the coronavirus was unsuccessful.
The Basque Government announced yesterday that it will not pose restrictions on Christmas dates and referred to the recommendations for family gatherings.
In any case, the Executive of Euskadi will continue to analyze, day by day, the evolution of the pandemic “In case it were necessary to promote new measures to propose, be it in the judicial sphere, be it to the rest of the Communities and to the Spanish Government.” “If the situation becomes complicated, not only here, but in the State, I will continue proposing measures,” he admitted.
Urkullu has appealed “to a responsible individual and collective exercise”, especially in the face of these Christmas dates, and calls for compliance with preventive measures and recommendations.
For his part, the Government delegate in the Basque Country, Denis Itxaso, has affirmed this Thursday in the Egun on Euskadi program of ETB1 that if the Lehendakari does not take more measures it is not because he does not have powers, but because within the BAC there is no consensus, and that you only have to look at the disparity of decisions of the mayors around the parades of olentzero and reyes.
