The main demonstrations called by the Feminist Movement took place this afternoon in Baiona, Pamplona, Vitoria, Bilbao and San Sebastián. The institutions have also shown their rejection of violence against women.

Thousands of women have taken to the streets in Euskal Herria to show their rejection of all violence suffered by women, under the motto ‘Lives free of sexist violence now!’, and they have called for organizing feminist self-defense.
On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the main manifestations of the Feminist Movement were held this afternoon in Baiona, Bilbao, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Donostia-San Sebastián and Pamplona / Iruña, although mobilizations have also taken place in many other Basque towns.
The Sacred Heart Square of Bilbao it has welcomed, under heavy rain, hundreds of women who have moved in several columns from different neighborhoods of the city.
The demonstration, in which the director of Emakunde, Izaskun Landaida, has participated, has toured the center of the city led by a banner with the central motto of the convocation, along with others that read slogans such as “Prostitution, abolition” .
Previously, several columns of protesters have left for the Plaza del Sagrado Corazón from different neighborhoods of the city where there have been more attacks on women during the last year, such as the Plaza de Bilbao La Vieja, which has traveled around Urazurrutia, and Calle Prim, through the Iturribide surroundings.
Feminists have claimed with these marches the commitment to “self-organize” to defend their lives against violence against women.
Faced with the increase over the last year of aggressions in the domestic sphere, at night and transphobic, feminists have vindicated “the right to live, once and for all, lives free from violence”.
According to the Feminist Movement, feminicides and sexual assaults are only “the tip of the iceberg of a structural problem”, since “they are the result of a system that is based on heteropatriarchal, racist and class power relations”.

Likewise, in the morning hundreds of people participated in the rallies that took place in front of town halls, councils and other institutions to denounce sexist violence.
The Basque Parliament has interrupted the plenary session at noon so that the parliamentarians could take part in a rally outside the building, which throughout the day will wear a purple dot, symbol of the fight against sexist violence and will be illuminated in this same color.
The Government and Parliament of Navarra has held a rally in Paseo Sarasate in which representatives of the entire parliamentary arch have participated, led by its president, Unai Hualde.
The event was organized by the Navarre Institute for Equality (INAI) and consisted of keeping a minute of silence, after which the director of INAI, Eva Istúriz, assured that the objective was to “show rejection of any type of aggression against women “.
The municipal corporation of Pamplona City Council, with the mayor of Enrique Maya at the helm, has concentrated in the Plaza Consistorial to denounce that against women and girls “structural violence is exercised in a thousand different ways, in all public and private spheres, and in all social classes and cultural contexts “.
