A commuter who spotted the rodent claimed that it was a rat that had been chewing through packets of crisps leaving crumbs on the floor in the Tesco supermarket
A shocking video shows a rodent wriggling into a Tesco crisp display.
The stomach-turning video was captured at Birmingham’s New Street Station, West Midlands.
In the video, the vermin can be seen perched on the side of a plastic crisp shelf.
The small gray pest hesitates for a moment before scurrying inside the shelf.
But the rodent then disappears from view before re-emerging in another video clip.
The furry creature again takes cover under the shelving units before darting across the shop floor towards the refrigerated section.
One commuter who spotted the rodent claimed that it was a rat and that it had been chewing though packets of crisps leaving crumbs on the floor.
He explained that he visited the store regularly, but felt ill when he spotted the rodent.
The customer reckoned the creatures had been there for some time and said he spotted the ‘rats’ making holes in the crisp packets.
He also claimed they left a trail of crumbs after chewing into the packets and munching the crisps.
Speaking about his terrifying experience, he said: “I felt sick as I go into that Tesco every single day.
“I could see the rats in the crisps making holes in them.
“They must have been there a while as there’s always a trail by the crisps of unopened crisps bags which are never cleaned.
“I was waiting for the Tesco to open, the store is meant to open at seven but I was recording the rat at quarter past while the store was still closed.”
A Tesco spokesperson said: “We take food hygiene very seriously and have rigorous hygiene standards throughout our stores.
“Since being made aware of this video, we have closely monitored any potential pest activity and have not found any evidence of pests in our store.”
In July 2019 the Mirror reported how footage captured a large rat scurrying around a Tesco supermarket.
Danielle Westbrook, 46, dumped her basket and ran out of the shop after spotting the rodent at a Tesco store in Manchester.
“I let out an almighty scream,” the gran-to-three told the Mirror.
“It’s appalling and disgusting.
“Now I feel angry.
“I’m never ever shopping in there again.
“It’s made me feel sick to my stomach that I have ever eaten food bought from this store.”
Tesco then said it had to call pest control to the large 24-hour supermarket.
The retailer, which has its headquarters in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, insisted it acted promptly.
