The former babysitter of murdered toddler Star Hobson said she will be “forever haunted” by her last meeting with the child, and that she “hasn’t been the same since.”

Beautiful blue-eyed Star died in 2020 after months of “neglect, cruelty and injury” at the hands of her mother Frankie Smith, 20, and her partner Savannah Brockhill, 28.

Star bled to death after being stamped on or punched at her home in Keighley, West Yorkshire, in September last year.

Smith was given just eight years in prison for allowing the death of a child. After serving two thirds of her sentence she could be out in four years.

Smith’s partner Savannah Brockhill, 28, was jailed for a minimum of 25 years and given a mandatory life sentence for murdering the child. She laughed in the dock has her sentence was handed down.

Speaking to the Mirror, Hollie Jones, 18, Star’s former baby sitter, shared jarring details of the abuse the child faced, how she was left hanging by child services and her last encounter with Star.

Hollie, now a carer, from Baildon, said she would be “forever haunted” by the last time she saw little Star.

“The last time I saw Star was about a month before she died and it will scar me for the rest of my life,” she said.

“She had a handprint on her neck and her cheek was really bruised. It was like she was petrified.

“She gripped onto me as soon as she was handed over. And then when they came back to get her about three or four hours later, she started screaming and screaming.“

They didn’t even say ‘hi’ to me but just said the bruises were from where she fell over.

Hollie said: “I had a number for the social worker from my original referral to social services but it was an answerphone and I left a message. Nobody got back to me.

“I sent some videos we took and pictures to Frankie’s relatives. Ever since that day I probably haven’t been the same.”

About Frankie, she added: “She was the mother, if anything she was a lot worse than Savannah. She failed her.”

Her comments follow news that the Attorney General will be “looking at” the sentence of Star Hobson’s mother after it was slammed as “pathetic”.

A judge reduced her sentence to account for the “burden” of knowing she played a significant role in the death of her 16-month-old daughter.

“She could be out in four years. That’s shocking and far too lenient,” Hollie said.

The Attorney General will also look at Savannah Brockhill’s sentence.

A spokesperson for the Attorney General’s Office said: “We have received a request for these sentences to be considered under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme. The Law Officers have 28 days from sentencing to consider the case and make a decision.”

Hollie, who was the first to raise the alarm to social services, told how she will never get over seeing Frankie bite Star’s finger, drawing blood and leaving the toddler screaming in pain.

She told the Mirror: “I was about 16 or 17 in the car feeding her and I got my finger in the way and she bit down on my finger and I shouted ‘ow’.

“Savannah then said to Frankie: ‘What you going to do? She bit Hollie?’ Frankie then bit down on Star until she bled. Star started screaming and was screaming the whole way home as I tried to comfort her.

Savannah gave her the order to do it but it was the first thing I’d seen Frankie use violence.

“She also would shout at Star for no reason. Star had this adorable laugh and I used to make her laugh because I loved it so much but it irritated Frankie.

“That was the start of my red flags. Frankie didn’t like her laugh because it was high-pitched.”

Speaking about Savannah, she added: “Savannah is frightening. She has a look on her face. She’s got killer’s eyes. She’s got Ted Bundy’s eyes. It’s like death.”
