Mars seems to be a dry planet where nothing happened for billions of years. Sometimes a dust storm might hit the planet, except that mars depict a barren land with few frozen desserts.
But researchers predict that mars might have undergone some recent activities and could be an active volcano. Curiosity and Perseverance like rovers from NASA can help in uncovering the mystery of mars. Scientists are still trying to figure out the history of mars.
Around 4 billion years ago, mars were quite wet and warmer. But a mysterious thing happened roughly 3 billion years ago on mars which made the moisture and water settle down below the surface. The weird thing is still an unknown truth.
According to scientists, volcanic activities on mars used to happen somewhat between 3 billion to 4 billion years ago, and few eruptions might have occurred rather 3 million years ago.
Recently the orbiters revolving around mars have revealed a lot of data about mars. They are displaying several pieces of information about mars’ unknown areas. One of the recent information obtained was about the volcanic eruption that might have happened around 50,000 years which is relatively young according to astronomy.
The author of this study from a research scientist at the Planetary Science Institute believes that this might be the youngest volcanic activity on this planet.
According to the researchers, the disturbed surfaces of the mars might be the result of this pyroclastic eruption. Pyroclastic eruptions are due to the expanding gases leading to an explosion of magma. It resembles the reactions that happen after shaking a soda vigorously.
The majority of the lava flow and volcanic activity of mars resembles Earth’s Earth, but this pyroclastic eruption is quite a different one.
The author said that this characteristic remains a relatively new and thin deposit of ash and rock that encloses the underlying lava flows, indicating a different type of explosion than previously known pyroclastic patterns.
