The new order of the Basque Government to stop the progression of the pandemic has already had its first consequences, and this weekend neither the Tolosa Bean Festival nor the Murgia festivities will be held. After the last order of the Basque Government in which it leaves in the hands of the city councils “to suspend or temporarily postpone” mass events of all kinds, the municipal governments are now studying what to do with the fairs, festivals or other events.

Tolosa has suspended the Bean Festival that was going to be held this weekend, out of prudence and responsibility in the face of the evolution of the pandemic. As it is, they will not be celebrated nor the XXIX Contest of Producers of Bean of Tolosa, nor the XXXIV Gastronomic Contest of Bean of Tolosa. The Consistory maintains only the usual Saturday fair and cultural activities, which will be carried out following the preventive measures in force and under strict protocols.

Thus, the Tolosa City Council continues with the Nogën concert this Friday (November 19) at the Leidor, with the non-stop parade of the November 22nd Music Band (Santa Cecilia) and with the Aizkolaris Euskadi Championship of the November 28 at the Beotibar fronton.

Continuing with the suspensions, the Murgia Town Hall has decided to cancel the parties this weekend. They were originally going to be held in September, but had moved to this weekend.

Tolosa and Murgia are just two examples, and it remains to be seen what will happen with the Santa Lucia fair in Urretxu-Zumarraga, the Durango Fair, or the Santo Tomás de Bilbao and Donostia-San Sebastián fairs, to name a few events.

The City Council of Eibar has not made the decision on the celebration of the San Andrés festivities. According to Mayor Jon Iraola in ETB1’s “Egun on Euskadi” program, his wish is that they can be held but they are waiting to analyze the details of the order from the Basque Government.
