A court has rejected the confinement of Segrià. The Government of Spain calls to follow the recommendations of the autonomous community, but several municipalities have not applied the confinement.

The President of the Generalitat, Quim Torra, has announced that this monday afternoon a decree law that incorporates a plan to act against outbreaks like those of Segrià (Lleida), with the objective of “reinforce and expand” the containment measures adopted in the area, despite the decision of the Court of Instruction 1 of Lleida, on guard duty, of not ratify them. The decree has been approved late on Monday.

At a press conference at the Palau de la Generalitat, accompanied by the Vice President and Minister of the Economy, Pere Aragonès, Torra rejected the judicial decision: “We do not agree with this judicial decision. We do not accept it. We will assume the consequences that may arise. but I cannot endanger people’s health. “

According to Torra, the decisions approved by the Government cannot be stranded in a jurisdictional conflict in the courts, and, therefore, he has asked the population of Segrià to protect themselves against the advance of the coronavirus and follow the instructions of the Government, and not those of the court, “for their good.”

With the decree law, which will be approved in an extraordinary Executive Council, they want to give more force to the measures adopted in the Segrià, which they continue to consider “in force”, and thus overcome the judicial resolution.

The president of the Generalitat has stressed that they will not accept pressure of any kind, and that they will continue to make the decisions they consider, based on epidemiological and expert criteria, “as they have done in other places; even more restrictive, such as the case of preventing the right to vote in Euskadi and Galicia, and there has been no impediment “.

“If something cannot be denied to this Government, it is that We have always moved forward to make the decisions that at all times we have considered necessary for our fellow citizens“, has claimed, after recalling that, at the time, they decreed home confinement, while the State took 20 days to dictate it.

“If we believe that a strict home confinement must be carried out, we will decree it. Now, in Segrià, we are just in the preliminary phase of doing it,” said Torra, who does not understand that decisions made in favor of the health of citizens can run into bureaucratic hurdles.

The vice-president Aragonès, asked about the possibility of a state of partial alarm, has ruled it out, considering that Catalonia has the necessary instruments to manage the situation: “We have no reason to advance in this regard.”

The Government of Spain asks the citizens of Lleida to follow the recommendations of the health authorities of Catalonia

The Minister of Health of the Government of Spain, Salvador Illa, has asked the citizens of Lleida and the other seven municipalities of Segriá to follow the recommendations of the health authorities of their autonomous community, Catalonia; as he recalled, the autonomous community has the “preponderant” role in containing the transmission of the coronavirus.

“I am not going to enter into the legal debate; but there are instruments at the disposal of the autonomous communities to be able to control the Segriá outbreak, and I know that work is being done in this regard. We are available to collaborate in everything that is requested of us and, therefore, we are in fluid and permanent conversation with the authorities of Catalonia “, he asserted.
