After it was revealed that Prince William brings Kate Middleton a gin and tonic on an evening after their children are asleep in bed, we reveal the tipples the likes of the Queen and Meghan Markle could be enjoying this Christmas…
On Christmas Day, many of us will make a toast to the festive season with one of our favourite tipples.
And it’s more than likely the royals will also let their hair down and have a boozy drink to celebrate Christmas.
But what are their drinks of choice?
Last week, it was revealed the Duchess of Cambridge is partial to a gin and tonic to unwind after a long day.
It was reported that Prince Williambrings Kate the drink after she has put her children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis to bed.
Not only that, Kate is also said to be fond of white wine and has even been seen sipping Guinness on several occasions.
So what might the other royals be drinking this Christmas? Here we take a look..
Before she met Prince Harry, Meghan Markle had a very successful lifestyle blog called The Tig.
And it gave a massive clue to her favourite drink as the blog was named after Meghan’s wine of choice – Tignanello.
Speaking in an interview on Today way back in 2012 during her days as an actress on Suits, Meghan said: “At the end of a long day, there is nothing I enjoy more than a glass of wine.
“I used to be of the ‘it doesn’t matter, so long as it’s red’ persuasion, but then I grew up, and so did my palate.”

Just like Meghan it seems that Camilla is also a fan of fine wine, which dates back to her younger days.
The Duchess once revealed she was raised like the French when it comes to drinking wine.
At a reception for the UK’s Vineyard Association, she said: “People always ask me how I became involved in it all, well first of all I love wine, but secondly, my father was in the wine business, so I was brought up as a child drinking wine and water rather like the French.”
In the past, it has been said that the Queen enjoys a martini most evenings and is also partial to sweet German wine.
While another tipple she would drink from time to time was said to be Dubonnet and gin – a favourite drink of the Queen Mother.
However, it was revealed in October that she was giving up her nightly cocktail on the advice of doctors.
Her decision to give up booze is not linked to any health issues and a palace source said: “It is a recent and personal decision by the Queen.”
Meanwhile, a family friend told Vanity Fair’s royal correspondent Katie Nicholl: “The Queen has been told to give up her evening drink which is usually a martini.
“It’s not really a big deal for her, she is not a big drinker but it seems a trifle unfair that at this stage in her life she’s having to give up one of very few pleasures.”
While William might make Kate a gin and tonic on an evening, he prefers an altogether different drink.
In July 2020, he visited the Rose and Crown in Snettisham, Norfolk, after lockdown restrictions were lifted.
And when offered a pint by the barman, he shunned beer and lager and admitted he was a “cider man”.
He enjoyed the Aspall Suffolk Draught Cyder alongside a bowl of chips while he chatted to staff.
Like his brother, Harry also seems to like a pint – but he appears to prefer a beer to a cider.
In 2019, Harry was spotted enjoying a couple of pints of beer at The Rose & Crown pub and sat alongside Meghan, who cradle a baby Archie in her arms.
The pub was the couple’s local when they lived at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor before they moved to the US.

Princess Eugenie, who gave birth to son August in February, is celebrating her first Christmas as mum this year.
So how might she be toasting it? With a vodka, lime and soda, it seems after she declared it her favourite drink.
In April 2016, she told Harpar’s Bazaar: “My favourite drink is vodka soda with loads of lime. Can’t beat that.”
