It’s been almost 11 years since The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge tied the knot at Westminster Abbey on 29 April 2011 – and it was certainly a day to remember.
Kate made a spectacular entrance wearing her Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen wedding dress, which she paired with a floral, lace-trimmed veil that fell just below her waist.
William, who wore his red Irish Guards officer uniform, stuck to tradition and chose not to watch his bride approach him, as many modern grooms do.
His brother and best man Prince Harry, on the other hand, did take a peek and made a sweet comment.
Royal author Marcia Moody details the special conversation in her 2013 novel Kate: A Biography .

In it, she wrote: “Harry looked back as Kate started walking down the aisle and reported back to his brother, ‘Right, she is here now.'” Harry then said: “Well, she looks beautiful, I can tell you that .”
The biography also reveals what William said to Kate when she joined him at the altar – as thousands watched on.
Marcia added: “The couple set eyes on each other, and William murmured to Kate, ‘You look beautiful.'”
After the church ceremony, which was attended by 1,900 guests including the Beckhams, Joss Stone and Sir Elton John, the newlyweds took a quick trip in the 1902 State Landau carriage along the processional route to Buckingham Palace, while waving at the cheering crowds.
London’s Metropolitan Police estimated that one million people lined the streets to see the royal wedding parade, according to the BBC in particular along the Mall where they hoped to catch a glimpse of William and Kate’s kiss on the iconic Buckingham Palace balcony.
The Queen hosted a lunchtime reception at Buckingham Palace, while Prince Charles held a private dinner which was followed by dancing – also at the palace.
As you’d expect, Kate had to make a few more compromises than the average person when she married William.
So, to make the transition a little easier, William made her the sweetest promise – and he’s still keeping it to this day.
According to reports, William told his wife-to-be that she wouldn’t have to leave her own family behind when she married into the Windsor’s.
Speaking on the documentary Kate Middleton: Working Class to Windsor, Vanity Fair’s Katie Nicholl said: “When William asked Kate to marry him, he made it very clear that she wouldn’t have to leave her family behind her once she married into his family .
“I have promised her that they’d always stay a part of the family and they have done.”
