Piers Morgan has explained his meeting with Ghislaine Maxwell after a photo of him with the disgraced socialite resurfaces.

The journalist took to his Twitter page to give an explanation as to why he was once connected with Ghislaine.

He said he came into contact with her as they both attended an event back in 2013, when they spoke about her dad.

The 56 year old said he isn’t a ‘psychic’ so couldn’t know what the future held for her when it came to being convicted of sex trafficking.

Alongside the photo of them both, Piers wrote: “To everyone gleefully sending me this photo: I met Ghislaine Maxwell at a book launch in New York in 2013.

“We spoke for 5 minutes about her father Bob who once owned the Daily Mirror. She seemed nice. Obviously, she’s a monster.

“Sadly, I’m not a psychic. Hope this helps.”

Piers went on to address the subject in another tweet as well as he posted a collage of photos of him with various other celebrities such as Rolf Harris and Harvey Weinstein.

He threatened to block any users who tried to make any comments about past interviews Piers has done with certain celebrities.

The broadcaster wrote: “Now I’ve (again..) explained these pix, anyone who sends me them going forward to make some fatuous nonsensical ‘GOTCHA!’ point is getting blocked.

“You’ve been warned, so no tearful ‘I was drunk, Piers, please forgive me!’ pleas for mercy if you ignore this directive.”

This week Ghislaine Maxwell was found guilting of five out of six counts of sex trafficking but the legal process is not over for her as she yet to be sentenced and faces a separate trial for perjury.

She now faces up to 65 years in prison as she was found guilty of the most serious charge against her, sex trafficking, which alone carries a maximum sentence of 40 years.

The length of time Maxwell faces in jail will be decided by US District Judge Alison Nathan but a sentencing date has not yet been set.

Judge Nathan is waiting on a pre-sentence report which will be compiled by an impartial investigator who will look into Maxwell’s background, family, education and employment history to see if any of these should influence the how long the sentence is.

Piers tweeted again to address backlash

Sarah Krissoff, a former prosecutor with the Southern District of New York, told the BBC : “Given the involvement of minors, the judge has really great discretion to impose a significant sentence, and based on the evidence that was presented at trial, frankly, I expect the judge to impose a very severe sentence upon her.”

As she waits for her sentence, Maxwell is being kept in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, where she has been kept in isolation since July 2020.

Maxwell was found not guilty of one charge, enticement of a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts.

This count accused her of coercing a girl to travel from Florida to New York, between 1994 and 1997, to engage in sex acts with Jeffrey Epstein.
