With all the different symptoms for colds, flu and — of course — the coronavirus flying around, it is no wonder a few people are getting a little confused.

Side effects from your vaccine booster shot can also leave you feeling a little worried, as some of them can be somewhat similar to that of the new Omicron variant symptoms.

The virus is rife up and down the country at the moment. There were 91,743 new cases in the UK on Monday, December 20.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) confirmed 8,044 additional cases of the Omicron variant, bringing the total cases of the variant in the UK to 45,145.

A study by health science company ZOE reveals there are two main crossover symptoms of Omicron and the booster jab that people might get confused over.

“As our latest data shows, Omicron symptoms are predominantly cold symptoms, runny nose, headache, sore throat and sneezing, so people should stay at home as it might well be Covid,” said the report.

Fatigue and headaches are believed to be the crossover symptoms that both the jab and the Omicron variant have.

Fatigue appears to be a common symptom the Omicron variant. The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identified that 65% of people with the variant experienced some sort of fatigue.

The NHS also lists feeling achy, or feeling or being sick as possible side effects of the jab.

The symptoms of Omicron

A scratchy throat, mild muscle aches, extreme tiredness and a dry cough are all symptoms of Omicron

The symptoms of Omicron are known to be different than that of previous variants, so it is important to identify what they are.

On December 14, Dr Angelique Coetzee, chair of the South African Medical Association, warned that headaches are a key symptom of Omicron.

She said: “Even if you wake up with a slight headache, not feeling well, please come and let us [your GP] double check.”

The five symptoms associated with the new Omicron variant are believed to be:

  • A scratchy throat (as opposed to a sore throat)
  • A dry cough
  • Extreme tiredness

  • Mild muscle aches

  • Night sweats
