Quim Torra has responded that the Government is committed to seeking a political solution “to a political problem” and that it will always defend the path of dialogue and “obedience to the people of Catalonia.”

The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro SánchezHe said this Thursday to the President of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Quim Torra, who knows “perfectly what it is the path that would bring him back to unilateralism, the bankruptcy of legality and contempt“.

Sánchez has thus warned the president of the Generalitat in the press conference he has offered in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, together with the president of that country, Iván Duque; He has done so when he has been asked what could happen if Torra issues him an ultimatum to hold a referendum on self-determination.

The President of the Spanish Government has considered that Torra, when he says certain things, it is not addressing the majority of Catalans, while emphasizing that politics must be at the service of coexistence and all Catalan actors must contribute to it, and not to the social fracture.

The limits, “very clear”

Sánchez has assured that the Executive he leads has very clear limits, because Spain is a social and democratic state of law in which the legality is respected, although it has not expressly referred to the possibility of having to resort again to the application of article 155 of the Constitution, if these limits are exceeded.

“Within the law, the Government is willing to speak with the Government. What it has to do – he added – is to represent the majority of Catalans who want to end this crisis of coexistence and fracture that they have been suffering from a few years to this part”.
