Welcome to the latest edition of
The city is our Daily Recap, where we take a look at some of the Manchester City stories you may have missed.

City’s latest academy star, James McAtee, is the top scorer in Premier League 2 this season, prompting a growing group of fans to monitor the status of his contract.

Liverpool hero turned pundit Jamie Carragher has called a City player the best of his position in world football.

And lastly, Dutch great Marco van Basten has warned both City and Liverpool to stay away from highly rated talent at PSV.

Magic McAtee

Phil Foden has paved the way for City’s youngsters to break into the star-studded first team and it seems many are ready to follow suit. One player who is drawing the attention of many across the county is McAtee.

The Daily Mail has reported that the likes of Brighton, Leicester City and Aston Villa are interested in the 19-year-old.

our view: This guy can play. He is the type of player who will make things work in the final third and the shades of David Silva with an eye for goal make him look perfect for Pep Guardiola.

However, ample options in the first-team squad and McAtee’s contract due to expire in 2023 means he has an imminent decision to make. Would McAtee benefit more from regular first-team football, or from training and learning alongside arguably the best team in Europe?

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher greatly admires Kevin de Bruyne

We all know how amazing Kevin De Bruyne is. The Belgian has established himself as one of the best players in Europe since his arrival at the Etihad Stadium in 2015. He has been so good that even the sworn rivals are amazed by him.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Football Podcast, Jamie Carragher named KDB as his dream signing for Liverpool.

“I think he is one of the best players in the world,” he said. “I think in the last two or three years he has definitely been the best midfielder in the world.

“People say Liverpool lack creativity in midfield, and I think that’s a bit harsh because I think Liverpool get their creativity from different areas and with the way the team is set up.

Van Basten was one of the best of his generation. The three-time Ballon d’Or is highly decorated, so when he talks about football, you listen.

The former Ajax and AC Milan striker has warned City and Liverpool about his interest in Cody Gakpo, a highly rated 22-year-old winger from PSV.

Speaking on Ziggo Sport’s Rondo, Van Basten said: “[Gakpo] He has been in the Eredivisie for a year. You have to have a foundation to be successful abroad. It’s three or four years in the Netherlands.”

our view: It’s hard not to agree with van Basten. Just look at the players who recently moved from the Netherlands to England. Steven Bergwijn, Donny van de Beek and Memphis Depay are examples of men who perhaps made the switch from the Premier League too soon.
