Brace yourselves sisters – the habit is coming to Manchester!

This summer, a brand new production of the Broadway and UK smash hit musical, Sister Act, will be running at the Palace Theatre.

The hilarious musical comedy will premiere in Manchester, from June 27 to July 9, ahead of a major London run.

All your prayers have been answered with a stunning all-star cast, including national treasure and comedy legend Jennifer Saunders as Mother Superior and The Greatest Showman’s incredible Keala Settle.

They are joined by TV and West End legend Lesley Joseph, star of Tracy Beaker and Olivier Award-winner Clive Rowe, West End sensation and Hairspray favorite Lizzie Bea, and Emmerdale and Waitress star Sandra Marvin as Deloris – everyone’s favorite nun on the run.

The story follows disco diva Deloris, as her life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder. Placed under protective custody, she is hidden in the one place she shouldn’t be found – a convent!

Encouraged to help the struggling choir, she helps her fellow sisters find their true voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.

A stellar cast and crew

Led by Jennifer Saunders as Mother Superior, the production features a wonderful cast of actors and artists.

Jennifer Saunders is a BAFTA award-winning actress, comedian and writer. She is one half of the highly successful and much-loved comedy duo French and Saunders and also wrote and starred in five series, three specials and a feature film of her hit comedy Absolutely Fabulous.

Tony-Award nominated actress and singer, Keala Settle, is the breakout star of 20th Century Fox’s The Greatest Showman, alongside Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, Zac Efron, and Zendaya. The Hawaii native’s performance of the film’s Oscar-nominated song, This Is Me, reached Number One on the UK’s charts for a record-smashing 28 weeks.

Lesley Joseph is best known for playing Dorien Green in the hugely successful sitcom Birds of a Feather, alongside Pauline Quirke and Linda Robson. Lesley’s theater credits include Miss Hannigan in Annie at the West End’s Victoria Palace and also on a national tour, and her Olivier Award-nominated performance of her as Frau Blucher in Young Frankenstein.

Clive Rowe won the Olivier award for ‘Best Supporting Actor in a Musical’ for Guys and Dolls at The National Theater and was also nominated for ‘Best Supporting Performance’ in Carousel, also at The National Theatre.

Lizzie Bea is currently starring as Martha Dunnstock in Heathers The Musical at The Other Palace. She recently received critical and audience acclaim for her portrayal of Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray at the London Coliseum.

Having played Jessie Grant in ITV’s Emmerdale for two years, Sandra Marvin joined the West End production of Waitress to play Becky, before reprising the role in 2021 and 2022 for the UK tour of the production.

But that’s not all. Featuring original music by Tony and eight-time Oscar award-winner Alan Menken (Disney’s Aladdin, Enchanted) and songs inspired by Motown, soul and disco, this heavenly musical is joyous and uplifting in equal measures.

Don’t miss out

A musical sent from above, Sister Act is a brilliant, must-see show which raises the spirits and warms the soul time after time.

The production will be at Manchester’s Palace Theater from Monday, June 27 to Saturday, July 9, 2022.
