A mum who wanted to surprise her children on December 1 with the return of her family’s naughty Elf on the Shelf was gutted when the little creatures created more chaos that she was expecting.

Lyndsey Sahota’s three children Bella, 9, Jaxon, 7 and Carter, 5 raced into the kitchen to find their advent calendars with their three elves, who had started a fight with flour.

But alongside the flour the beauty technician from Swindon, Wiltshire had also written “We’re back” on the floor with snow spray and flour.

The 38-year-old started clearing the mess as her children tucked into breakfast and soon started panicking when she realised it wasn’t coming off.

The snow spray had been absorbed into her wooden floor and left a permanent mark.

Speaking to the Mirror Lyndsey said: “This was the first one of the year and the first in our new home, we only moved in eight months ago.

“The wooden floor was new when we moved in, but our old house had white tiles on the floor, so everything would wipe off.

“I’m gutted, I just didn’t think about the floor.”

“I was using up the dregs of a snow spray can I’d been using on decorations and when it ran out I added the flour.”

She added: “I was shouting, it’s not coming off.”

Not wanting to ruin the fun for her children, she quickly blamed the elves for the mess.

Lyndsey uploaded the images to a Mrs Hinch fans page on Facebook where people help out by suggesting how to clean up various problems.

She added: “I put the post on the Facebook group and I’ve had so many messages with people saying try different things.

“One person said I’d spelt it wrong, but that was the least of my worries. I’ve even had people message to say their husband is a carpenter and I should try this.”

On their second night they climbed a pillow mountain

Unfortunately so far none of the suggestions have worked and the family may have to replace the entire floor.

But Lyndsey added that she won’t give up trying to make this time of year magical for her children.

“I’m gutted, but I do see the funny side of it.

“I’m always up for all the kids stuff like that. Last night the three elves had a baby so we have another to look after now.”
