A comical GP receptionist has been mocking bizarre Zara photoshoots with her own collage of hilarious pictures. Whether it be wearing kitchen foil on her head or posing with multi-coloured balloons, mum-of-two Carla Hughes has been the brunt of her jokes with her friends during lockdown for her funny creations.
It was when shopping in popular high street retailer Zara for her two children, that Carla was left perplexed by the awkward poses the models did when showing off the items of clothing. So, when returning home from a stressful shift at work one day, she decided it would be a good idea to re-enact one.
Tagging Zara in her initial post on Facebook, the front line worker, who has battled a grievous two years working for the NHS during the pandemic, said it gave her and her friends ‘something to laugh about’ during otherwise dark times. Posing with an array of items scattered around her house de ella, her 10-year-old son de ella plays photographer.

“I’m pretty good at it aren’t I?” joked Carla, modestly laughing about her latest snaps of her. “My job is pretty stressful and I worked right through the pandemic, but when I got home I just wanted to have a laugh and do something to make people smile.
“I work at a GP in Manchester city centre, and we look after thousands of patients and walk ins, and it’s been really challenging for us through Covid. I am a bigger girl, and it is an automatic thing for me to want to make people laugh.
“It is hard juggling looking after children, getting them to school and working long hours and keeping yourself sane. I shop in Zara for my children and love a lot of the stuff in there, but find the modeling pictures so funny.”
Mocking the models, Carla, 30, used items already in her wardrobe. Her de ella first snaps de ella saw her wear foil from her kitchen drawer to her head de ella, with another showing her hunched over in a brown trench coat. In her latest stream of pictures of her, she is stood with various balloons stuck to her sides of her and another with her arms going through her coat backwards.
Her daughter scours the house looking for the different items, as her 10-year-old son takes the pictures for her. She added that she often gets tagged in the hilarious ads with friends asking her to do her own version of her.
An Instagram page, @Awkwardzara, has already amassed 66,000 followers by posting a stream of ‘awkward poses’ struck by models on Zara’s website, with comedic captions underneath. The retailer has made various headlines over the years as shoppers reacted to various odd poses, including models standing on top of cooking stoves in high heels or wearing a handbag on their head.
She said: “Everytime I see their pictures they are so bizarre. They advertise a coat whilst lying down backwards on a chair or standing in some weird pose. I did my own versions last year and everyone found it so hilarious, so I wanted to do it again.
“My children get involved and find it so funny too. I don’t buy anything new, I just use things I already have around the house.” In her latest post by ella, Carla tagged the Spanish retailer, writing: “Zara …. I’m still waiting to hear from you!”
However, they have yet to offer her a contract. Zara has been approached for comment.
