Mum furious as son’s Toby Carvery foot-long hot dog looks like ‘ET’s finger’

Oscar, 14, was disappointed when his hotdog arrived on a measly three-inch long piece of bread, meaning the remaining nine inches of sausage meat flopped over the sides

The foot-long hotdog came on a small amount of bread

A mum has criticized Toby Carvery for serving her son up a giant foot-long hot dog in a tiny bun, which has drawn comparisons to ET’s finger.

Irayna Coleman-Green said she thought the pub chain’s chef was having a joke when the foot-long super-pig hotdog she ordered for her son was placed on what appeared to be a comically small amount of bread.

The mum-of-three says the accompanying house salad for 14-year-old Oscar Coleman-Green’s meal consisted of just a few slices of raw carrot and cucumber and didn’t even include any lettuce.

Toby Carvery Aldenham have apologized to the customer and said they were disappointed the meal ‘doesn’t reflect their high standards on this occasion’.

Irayna, from Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, said: “The bread was about three inches long and it was for a foot-long sausage. It was a bit of a shock.

“We eventually got a little bit more bread but it wasn’t the whole size of a hot dog. Maybe the chefs spend their time doing the carvery stuff, it was disappointing.

“It looked like ET’s finger in a bit of a bread. It was a bit of a joke really.”

The family had visited the pub as a Bank Holiday treat after visiting a nearby obstacle course and were looking forward to a hearty meal.

Irayna said: “”We asked ‘have you got more bread?’ and we were told ‘that’s how it comes’. We were told ‘that’s how they serve it’ and I said ‘no it’s not, it’s supposed to be a hot dog’.

“She went back again and she came back out with a little bit more dry bread.”

Irayna’s posted a review on social media as well, reading: “Very disappointing lunch yesterday at Aldenham.

“A foot-long pig-in-blanket hot dog, and ‘salad’. When I asked the waitress if this was right, she went back to the kitchen only to be told that this is how it is usually served.

“I had to ask a couple of times before the chef allowed us to have a bit more bread.

“The ‘salad’, however, was how the salad is usually served. The waitress said I could have some veg from the carvery, which was nice of her, but I wanted a salad. This was my first visit to this particular location. I won’t go there again.”

A spokesperson for Toby Carvery Aldenham, said: “We’re proud of our popular Footlong Super-Pig, so we are very disappointed one of our valued customers received a meal that doesn’t reflect our high standards on this occasion.

“We have raised this with our internal teams to investigate and would like to apologize to the guest and invite her back to have a delicious meal on us.”
