An 11-year-old girl has been brutally attacked by a violent group of teenagers who were caught on film.
The girl’s devastated mother, Leanne Charlton, has claimed her daughter was ‘jumped’ last Wednesday (April 13).
In the despicable video, about 20 teenagers can be seen beating one girl, in what her mum is describing as an unprovoked attack.
In the clip which has been widely circulated on social media, the defenseless girl is then dragged to the ground by her hair as she attempts to fend off her attackers.
Speaking to CoventryLive, Leanne said: “My daughter was attacked by a group of boys and girls, she is only 11-years-old. It is horrible.”
Mum Leanne explained that her daughter was assaulted on Hans Close, Coventry, after making her way back from seeing her friend.
She said: “My daughter went to her friend’s house and she was coming back from the shop on the corner of Harnall Lane and they have all got her saying you have to fight one of the girls or all of the boys then they started attacking her .”
She said her daughter suffered ‘horrific’ injuries from the attack, explaining: “Kids were jumping up and down on my daughter’s head. She had marks on her head and bruises on her arms.
“A boy kicked her in the back of the head, she blacked out and does not know what happened after that. She is still having severe headaches and has to wear sunglasses when she goes out in the sun.”
She also spoke of the emotional toll the attack has had on her daughter.
She said: “She is up and down, one day she is crying and the next day she is really angry because she is watching the video and she can hear herself saying sorry to them.”
Her mum added that her daughter was ‘very lucky’ that a woman who lived across the road helped her after the attack and ‘took her in.’
She said: “If that woman did not come out my daughter could have been dead for all I know.”
Since the attack, the video, which is believed to have been taken by one of the attackers, has been shared on social media and viewed over 4,000 times, says mum Leanne, who branded it ‘really disgusting.’
She added that the offenders have been ‘all over’ social media ‘constantly on her’ daughter making targeted attacks.
Leanne hopes the police will take action as she says ‘something has to be done about it because it is wrong.’ She said: “What if next time the kid is smaller and they kill them.
“Honestly, this gang culture has to stop, someone has got to do something because people are losing their lives too quickly, and they are getting younger and younger.”
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We are investigating after an 11-year-old girl was assaulted on Hans Close, Coventry on Saturday (16 April). Thankfully she wasn’t seriously injured.
“The matter was reported and is currently being investigated. Anyone with information can get in touch via Live Chat, 101 or Crimestoppers. Please quote crime number 20/387140/22.”
