An M&S Christmas look has been slammed by some shoppers who said it was a “pantomime” and “clown” make-up.

One of their latest instagram posts has gotten some people up in arms.

It showcases a model donning a festive make-up look from home in a short video with the caption reading: “@starr_clare showing us her go-to XM&S make-up look. #MyMarks,” MyLondon reported.

The model started with a makeup-free face, before putting on an array of M&S cosmetics including bright red lipstick and sparkly silver eyeshadow.

Some shoppers were in the festive mood, with one saying “Amazing eyes [emoji with heart eyes],” others were less in the festive mood with one calling the makeup “pantomime”-like and “clown”-like.

Someone even received 151 likes with their comment: “No. Just no. Looks like pantomime makeup!”

Another social media user responded in agreement: “Yes, she looks like a clown!”

Others disagreed with one person angry, slamming the critiques, saying “What an awful thing to say,” and someone else agreed adding, “She can wear what she wants.”

More got involved in the debate, with another remarking, “Great if you are going for the clown look!”

Other comments along the same lines included, “Oh my days….sorry but that looks awful. Clown make up!! Really M&S??” and “like a Clown [clown emoji]”.

But a different user tried to bring some peace back to the comments section and wrote: “You’re allowed to express your own opinions, that’s absolutely fine.

“There’s a comment section for a reason but the unnecessary nastiness needs to stop. Stop sh***ing on women, we’re meant to be celebrating each other!

“It’s JUST makeup! I’m a woman with the freedom to choose how much makeup and what style of makeup I like to wear.

“I don’t think you realise how much a nasty comment can affect someone, never mind over a 100 of them. Be kind!”

Then those on the opposing side said, “Is this a stage makeup course?” and, “Lol its a bit pantomime dame isn’t it [crying-laughing emoji] m&s should maybe stick to food and knickers not make up tips,” receiving 12 likes.

To which others responded, “How many Karens on here judging someone for wearing makeup! She can do what she wants!!!!” and, “Wow what’s up with all this negativity [stunned emoji].”

The debate over makeup on a festive Instagram post got so heated that one comment, which received a whopping 41 likes, read: “Y’all need to chill [crying-laughing emoji]|.”
