Meghan Markle appeared to be wearing Princess Diana’s £17,800 Cartier Tank Française watch when she and Prince Harry arrived at the Invictus Games in The Hague, Holland

Meghan Markle paid tribute to Princess Diana for wearing what appeared to be her £17,800 Cartier watch at the Invictus Games.

The Duchess of Sussex bought her own Cartier Tank Française watch before meeting Prince Harry, although it is believed the royal also gave her his mum’s gold watch.

She wore the watch alongside a striking £3,200 Valentino white suit, white heels and a handbag today.

It comes after Harry and Meghan arrived in The Hague, in Holland, to celebrate the Invictus Games after a brief stopover in the UK.

They met the Queen and Prince Charles in what was their first joint trip back to Britain since ‘Megxit’ yesterday.

The royal couple greeted Invictus competitors and their families, as well as city leaders and officials from the Dutch Ministry of Defense today.

Harry was pictured being handed a calendar by one of the people at the reception while Meghan could be seen smiling in the background.

Meghan wore a double-breasted Valentino wool blazer and a pair of high-waisted pair of trousers for the event.

She donned a small gold necklace and bracelet, which dangled near what appeared to be the same Cartier watch worn by Princess Diana.

It is believed Meghan could own two versions of the watch, including the one once owned by Princess Diana.

In 2015, the then-actress revealed she bought a Cartier Tank Française as a celebration over her show Suits landing a third season.

She told HELLO! Magazine : “I’ve always coveted the Cartier French Tank watch.

“When I found out Suits had been picked up for our third season – which at the time felt like such a milestone – I totally splurged and bought the two-tone version.”

She even had the watch engraved with a special message, reading ‘To MM from MM’.

However, it is also believed Harry gave Meghan his mum’s Cartier Tank Française in the early stages of their relationship.

The timepiece was gifted to Diana by her father on her 21st birthday.

Princess Diana regularly wore the gold Cartier Tank Française watch for engagements in the 1990s.

After Diana died in 1997, the watch belonged to Prince William but it is believed he gave it to Harry in or around 2009.

Meghan has been gifted several items from Diana’s collection, the Mail Online reports.

The lavish items include Diana’s butterfly earrings and gold bracelet, which Meghan wore on their Australian tour in 2018.
