Manchester United vs Southampton prediction and odds: Take a chance on United’s attack clicking into gear

Check out our 5/17 Manchester United vs Southampton prediction below

For the second time in a week, Manchester United were made to pay for a complete inability to convert big chances and unless things change quickly, that wastefulness is going to cost them a top-four spot.

No matter how dangerous the Reds look in certain periods of any game, they seem to be completely incapable of posting a complete 90-minute performance.

That is largely down to the fact that they don’t control games in the way that a side that dominates possession would. United are either defending or attacking on the break, there is very little in between.

Bruno Fernandes has only scored in one of his last eight Premier League games. Cristiano Ronaldo is just one in his last six of him, Marcus Rashford has scored just four goals all season while Edi Cavani has found the net just twice.

Ralf Rangnick needs to find a way of getting his forwards firing or United’s season will be over before they know it.

Despite the extremely worrying output of their strikers, United are 4/7 favorites with Grosvenor Sport to get the three points they badly need against Southampton, who are 5/1 chances to win at Old Trafford for the first time since 2016.

United are in a very strange predicament because the overall feeling around the side is one of negativity despite the fact that they have lost just one of their last 15 matches in all competitions.

They are clearly more than capable of blowing Southampton away if they find their finishing boots because the chances are coming and they will do so again against a Saints side that had a tough game at Spurs on Wednesday night.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side will be full of confidence after that hard-fought 3-2 victory in north London but it’s asking a lot for them to back that up just three days later at Old Trafford.

Manchester United vs Southampton Prediction

Southampton have conceded 26 goals (more than two per game) on the road this term which is more than any other side bar Leeds United, and even United’s misfiring forwards will fancy their chances of inflicting damage on this Saints side.

It’s surely only a matter of time before United give someone a hiding, so let’s take a chance the offensive unit clicks by backing the hosts on the Asian Handicap.

The bet that makes most appeal is the 17/5 with Grosvenor Sport about United -2, which means we’ll clean up if the Reds win by three or more while getting our stake back if they win by a two-goal margin.

Recommended bet: Manchester United -2 (Asian Handicap) – 17/5
