A man tried to murder his former lover by stabbing her 31 times in a matter of minutes after finding a condom wrapper in her bathroom bin.

Chris Blakemore, 33, from Middlesbrough, turned up at his ex-girlfriend’s house in Stockton, County Durham unannounced and asking for money on October 13 2019.

The towering 6ft 6in man launched a frenzied attack with a chopping knife on his 5ft 4 ex-partner, Teeside Live reports.

Her body was covered with 31 stab wounds when she dragged her seven-year-old son and hid in the bathroom.

One stab wound was delivered with such force that it went straight through her wrist.

After dialing 999, paramedics rushed her to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough where she was treated for a collapsed lung.

The knife went all the way through her wrist and her lung was collapsed

Thankfully, the knife missed all of her major organs and arteries and she was well enough after surgery to give her account to cops from her hospital bed.

The woman’s seven-year-old son witnessed the attack while standing on the staircase of their home.

Speaking to police, she said Blakemore repeatedly tried stabbing her in the neck.

In court Blakemore denied trying to kill her, and claimed she tried to stab him.

He said her injuries were caused by accident as he wrestled the knife from her hands.

Forensic scientist Nicola Taylor told the court that pools of blood found throughout the house belonged to the woman.

Very little blood was left on Blakemore – just small spots where he’d washed his injured hand after the attack.

At the trial at Teeside Crown Court, messages revealed how the 33-year-old sent abusive and paranoid messages to his ex-partner, demanding to know about her love life.

Blakemore claimed his ex attacked him, and that she was injured as he tried to wrestle the knife off of her

The messages also revealed Blakemore repeatedly insulted her, and borrowed money from her.

Yesterday the jury spent four hours reaching a guilty verdict.

Judge Jonathan Carroll remanded him into custody as psychiatric reports are compiled before sentencing on February 25.

Speaking after the guilty verdict, Detective Chief Inspector Deb Fenny said: “The court heard that this was a harrowing attack, carried out in front of the victim’s child. The police officer who attended the 999 call provided essential assistance until paramedics arrived and the severity of the victim’s injuries was clear.

“Blakemore caused these horrific injuries after forcibly entering the victim’s home and the suffering she and her child experienced will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

“I’d like to thank DC Andrew Cartwright for leading a diligent investigation which brought this matter to court and the officers who have supported the victim and her child throughout the process. We hope that this result will help them to start to rebuild their lives.”
