Laporte, Steffen, Zinchenko — Man City injury news and possible return dates

Manchester City’s players will be reporting back to training soon after earning a well-earned break from their Premier League title challenge.

With plans for the squad to head out to Abu Dhabi shelved, Pep Guardiola instead chose to give his players a few days off to spend time with families and friends.

The hard graft will begin again soon though, with City still fighting on three fronts as they look to add to their trophy cabinet.

Next up for them will be Fulham in the fourth round of the FA Cup, and there are a few players who will be doubtful to feature in that tie.

Here’s the latest on the injury front and the possible return dates for some of City’s players.

Aymeric Laporte

The defender suffered a nasty gash following Stuart Armstrong’s challenge on him in the draw against Southampton.

The result of the challenge certainly wasn’t pretty, with Laporte showing off the damage on social media after the game.

It shouldn’t be any concern to City though, and the Spain international should be in contention following the international break.

Expected return date: February 5

Zack Steffen

Ederson’s deputy was prevented from traveling out to Ohio to link up with the USA due to a back injury.

The problem kept Steffen out of the draw with Southampton before the break, and he’s had to miss his country’s opening World Cup qualifier of the week.

It remains to be seen whether he’ll be able to link up with his international team-mates, which could leave his involvement for the FA Cup tie against Fulham in doubt.

Possible return date: February 5

Oleksandr Zinchenko

The Ukraine international missed the draw with Southampton before the players made their way out for the winter break.

No return date has been given for Zinchenko after he suffered a knock, so it remains to be seen whether he’ll be in contention for Fulham.

Possible return date: N/A

Liam Delap

The young forward has been working his way back to full fitness, with City resisting efforts to allow him out on loan during the second half of the season.

A host of Championship clubs have been eyeing Delap up, although Pep Guardiola is keen to see the youngster in action for City rather than any other side.

Having returned to full training, he could well be in contention to feature against Fulham in the cup.

Possible return date: February 5

Cole Palmer

Another who was absent for the draw at Southampton and no reason has yet been given as to why Palmer missed training before the break.

Possible return date: N/A

Meanwhile, Riyad Mahrez will likely be in contention for City’s cup tie against Fulham, having returned from the Africa Cup of Nations early after defending champions Algeria were knocked out at the group stages.
