Lanarkshire’s Pub of the Year winner is revealed


Whether you’re a drinker or not, the heart of a community is quite often the pub.

And East Kilbride’s Village Inn is just that after winning our Lanarkshire-wide Pub of the Year award.

The Stuart Street boozer came out on top when the votes were counted, with Wishaw’s Corrigans Bar coming a close second and Electric Bar in Motherwell just holding on for third.

Hundreds of votes were cast in our annual competition, highlighting the importance of a good local to our readers and communities.

The staff at the Village Inn were presented with their award last night and it was evident the team were delighted with their success.

Owner, Paul Jardine, said he was “over the moon” to take the Lanarkshire title and “overwhelmed” by the support of his loyal customers.

When reviewed, the Village Inn was praised for offering a ‘fantastic’ live music schedule every Friday and Saturday night hosting a regular high standard of bands and performers.

Absolute Beginners, Rat Patrol, The Copyrights, Skaledonia and Pork Pie are all set to play at the local music hub this month.

Paul said: “I’m chuffed to bits, I was blown away when we got the news. And overwhelmed by the support we’ve had from all of our customers.

“The amount of comments we’ve had saying how brilliant the pub is and that it’s the best pub is just amazing. The support we get from our customers is phenomenal.

“I’m honored to receive this trophy, especially as it’s for the whole of Lanarkshire.”

Our secret shopper praised its huge selection of beers on tap, welcoming staff and atmosphere, impressive refurbishment and loyal customer base in the dog-friendly pub.

It’s the welcoming staff and atmosphere that puts this boozer on the map, making you feel right at home from the second you walk in.

Televisions are plenty, making it the ideal spot to watch live sport with table service on offer if it’s quiet enough.

Having enjoyed an impressive refurbishment, the Village Inn is clean and inviting, offering a traditional look and feel.

Paul added that his hardworking staff and loyal customers are what makes this watering hole stand apart from the rest.

“We have such a brilliant team behind us who I’ve known for 15 years. Them and the punters are what makes the Village Inn. I’m buzzing!”

Other nominated finalists were Cue Here, Airdrie; Staging Post, Airdrie; Treasury Bar, Airdrie; Bar West, Hamilton; Hopeton Arms, Leadhills; Robin’s Bar, Newmains and Sportsman’s Bar, Rutherglen.
