Lanarkshire business women set to benefit from program of special events

Lanarkshire Women In Business is running a month-long program of online “impactful events” for female entrepreneurs.

The schedule launches on international women’s day, March 8, with a webinar featuring inspiring female leaders and sharing information on start-up funding and the wider business support available through the local network.

It brings together expert supporters from Business Gateway Lanarkshire, both South and North Lanarkshire Councils, the Federation of Small Businesses and New College Lanarkshire.

Sessions with top speakers and industry experts will take place on topics including self-confidence, starting a business from scratch, digital opportunities and empowering leadership; plus the opportunity to find out about new £2500 start-up grants.

The month-long events program was devised following a successful year-long pilot which “tested and confirmed the appetite for female-focused business support in Lanarkshire”.

Organizers say the sessions are “open to women at all stages of the business journey, from pre-start through to going concern, [and] women working in business with aspirations for personal and professional growth”.

The program will then be followed by a series of women’s learning and networking events across Lanarkshire from May onwards, such as group mentoring, coaching and leadership development programmes.

North Lanarkshire regeneration convener, Councilor Heather Brannan-McVey, said: “March is a statement of intent, registering our collective need to ensure women play a more active and equitable role in Lanarkshire’s economy, and the planned activities will spotlight that effort and galvanize our resolve to do better.

“Our speaker line-up is packed full of positive role models, top-level insights and advice borne out of years of combined industry experience, and their willingness to participate and give back to support aspiring and existing Lanarkshire businesswomen is truly inspiring in itself. ”

South Lanarkshire head of planning and economic development Pauline Elliott added: “We are delighted that there is such a strong line up of events taking place for Lanarkshire Women In Business throughout March.

“Offering support for women in business is essential to ensure they continue to have their voices heard; these events offer an excellent mix of practical help and advice and the speakers will be able to give tremendous insight into how to make your business as successful as possible.”

Business Gateway Lanarkshire operations director Roz Taylor: “Lanarkshire is home to thousands of inspiring women and Women In Business month is packed with informative sessions to boost knowledge and confidence and to invest in your self-development for free.”
