The Duchess of Cambridge today visited alone a mental health service that she created with Meghan Markle almost three years ago.

Shout, a texting service for people struggling with mental health, was Kate and Prince William’s first big project with Meghan and Prince Harry.

It launched in May 2019 following a £3m investment from the Royal Foundation, when the royals were dubbed the Fab Four.

However, today when she visited the service in Notting Hill, London, Kate was flying alone as she met volunteers and people who had raised funds for the organisation.

Among them was a teenage Scout who raised £8,000 for the service by sleeping outdoors in a hammock for a year.

Kate met 13-year-old Leo Street, calling him “an inspiration” after he braved temperatures as low as minus five to raise money for the charity.

The Duchess, wearing a £355 olive green Derek Lam dress and £10 ASOS earrings, joked: “There really isn’t a Scout badge big enough for that. What you achieved is really inspiring.”

“You must have had some awesome gear to keep you warm,” he said.

Leo, from Swanley, slept under a heavy-duty tarp to protect him from the elements.

He told the Duchess that his next fundraising venture will be cycling to Scotland during mid-term.

Mark Ungless, 49, an analytics expert, said children 13 and under made up 8 percent of his texts, which are mostly received between 10 pm and midnight.

“I told the Duchess that we were surprised by the number of very young people who came and the time as well. It needs to be addressed,” he said.

Shout has seen usage of its platform increase by 140 percent since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and Kate was listening to how she needs more volunteers to come on board to ensure she can meet the growing demand.

The Duchess was also told that the conversations taking place on Shout can be used to provide information on mental health in the UK, with suicide (34 per cent), depression (32 per cent) and anxiety or stress (31 percent). cited as the top reasons texting users have sought support.

During the visit, Kate also saw a live demo of the platform before joining a small group of Shout Volunteers to hear about their experiences helping people in need.

He was also shown how people have personally benefited from participating in the service, including gaining new skills and developing a sense of purpose, and also met Cassie Waters, who started raising money for Shout after using the service herself. when he suffered from mental health issues in 2021.

During her visit, Kate also met clinical supervisors, volunteers and fundraisers to thank them for their invaluable efforts in ensuring vital mental health support is available across the UK at any time of the day or night.

She heard how the service is inviting members of the public to become Shout Volunteers to meet the growing demand for support.
