The soap opera’s executive producer, Iain MacLeod, has previously said that it’s the ‘Meet the Parents’ setting done Corrie-style when Amy takes him home to meet Tracy and Steve.

“We’re pairing him (Jacob) with someone who is historically quite well behaved and wouldn’t boo a goose and is quite sensitive given his genetic background and that’s Amy Barlow,” says Iain.

“We thought about how Tracy and Steve would react if she suddenly ended up in a romantic relationship with possibly the most inadequate boyfriend they’ve ever heard of.”

He says the popular couple will do everything they can to get Amy away from Jacob, from reverse psychology to cutting her off financially, with “increasing failure.”

“All of these things just make it worse and worse with the effect of comedy, and in the end, they have to face the bullet and move on with this guy,” adds Iain.
