Eurovision: Rylan Clark reveals he’s been mistaken for act

Rylan Clark wanted to make a statement when he returned for the Eurovision Song Contest this year.

The much-loved TV star is back for this year’s competition, hosting the UK coverage from Turin, Italy alongside Scott Mills and Eurovision stalwart Graham Norton, with Sam Ryder hoping to bring home the top prize for the UK this year.

Having been forced to miss last year’s competition due to illness, Rylan was determined to return this year with some incredible outfits that have already got everyone talking – not least everyone in Turin who have been mistaking him for a contestant this year due to his incredible one of a kind and unique outfits.

The outfits have been designed by Raph Dilhan, who was a finalist on The Great British Sewing Bee. On the show, Raph wowed the judges week on week, winning the most garments of the week, more than any of the other hopefuls.

And now Raph has opened up on what it was like to work with Rylan and how the pair made the huge height difference between them work for the fittings, with Rylan even having to “crawl to the floor” at one point.

Sharing exclusively to The Mirror about the fittings, Raph said: “The fittings with Rylan were so much fun, I’m tiny and he’s a lot taller than me. At one point he had to crawl to the floor for me to take him out of one of the mock up garments!

“We wanted a futuristic vibe, elegant of course very fabulous as it’s Eurovision! Rylan’s been working out a lot and is in such great shape so I also wanted to make sure we showed off a bit of chest.”

Rylan said the collaboration was a “dream” for him too, as he joked about the multiple cases of mistaken identity.

“Working with Raph for Eurovision was a dream pairing. I was so gutted to miss last year’s show and wanted to return with an updated look. I’m so happy with the pieces and if one more person stops me to wish me luck performing, I’m gonna have to go back to the high street,” he quipped as he opened up about the partnership between the pair.

Raph also revealed that the looks were partly inspired by the UK’s entry, the track Spaceman.

“Sam Ryder’s Spaceman song is epic and it influenced some of the thinking behind the garments, the white blazer Rylan is channeling 80s Star Trek and I went with a sci-fi feel for the black open sleeved jacket. People have compared it to General Zod , the super villain from Superman who is literally a man from a different planet, hilarious but I’m really happy with the reference!” Raph shared.

“There are a couple of other pieces Rylan will be wearing this weekend too that I hope people will enjoy.”

*The Eurovision Song Contest will be broadcast live from Italy on the BBC tonight at 8pm.
