I styled the ‘sell-out’ denim jumpsuit from John Lewis three ways for any occasion – Bethan Shufflebotham

When ANYDAY fashion launched at John Lewis back in September, the hero piece of the collection was a denim jumpsuit that sold out in days.

And this month, the utility-style boilersuit is back – and costs less than £50.

The versatile piece has plenty of pockets for carrying the essentials, and a zip front to make getting ready a breeze.

Now, I’m a big fan of a boilersuit for the 70s vibe they give, but before buying any piece these days, I always ask myself one question: Can I wear it three different ways?

If the answer is yes, I know I’ll be getting my wear out of it, so I’ll always try and plan out three looks for three different occasions before committing it to my wardrobe.

I styled the ANYDAY jumpsuit three different ways to prove just how versatile it is.

And to make my challenge even more difficult, I only allowed myself to add three things to each look.

So whether you’re going to a gig, or out for brunch, this one-piece is an easy and comfortable piece that’s sure to get you some compliments.

Outfit One

So accessories are a must for this outfit

As I mentioned before, I’m a big fan of 70s fashion, and I think nothing goes better with a dark blue denim than a pop of burnt orange.

For this look, I styled a ripped, high neck vest beneath the jumpsuit leaving it slightly unzipped so that it was visible.

Tan accessories are a must for this outfit, so I opted for some boots from Lula Boutique, in Staffordshire, and a second-hand bag I bought for £7 on Depop.

While both of these are no longer available to buy, I found some similar boots on John Lewis which would go really well with this tan camera crossbody bag.

And with the complete look, this outfit is perfect for cocktails with the girls or a brunch date.

OutfitTwo

Paired with Dr Martens and a David Bowie scarf, it’s perfect for gigs

I like to go to a lot of music events and gigs, so I considered a perfect look for a concert at one of Manchester’s many grassroots venues.

This time, I styled the jumpsuit with a pair of black dr martens , which are my go-to boot for gigs. But Dr Martens are an investment piece at £149, so if you’re looking for a slightly cheaper alternative, John Lewis have this pair of black lace up boots for £89 -£60 cheaper.

With this look, I added my faux leather bakerboy hat, which I bought from Sparrowhawk Vintage around six years ago, and a lightning bolt scarf from Manchester independent business Ollie and Fred.

The scarf costs £28 and is inspired by David Bowie – one of my favorite musicians, so much so that I have this red and blue lightning bolt tattoo.

And the scarf doesn’t necessarily need to be styled around the neck, either. It would also make an interesting belt, hair wrap, or can be tied onto a bag handle to offer a different look.

Outfit Three

A more casual way of styling the John Lewis jumpsuit

For my third outfit, I wanted a more casual look for if I was going to be doing a lot of walking, such as a shopping trip at the Arndale.

White trainers are a fail safe option and I believe everyone should own a pair of comfortable, white trainers.

Mine are a leather pair from TU at Sainsbury’s, which I got for £17.50 in the sale, and they have leopard print detailing on the side.

Este AND/OR pair were the most similar I could find at John Lewis, costing £75.

Going with a neutral leopard print theme, I added a knot headband which cost £2 from Primark, and a long knitted cardigan from independent brand Face & The Sky.

I think this look gave the jumpsuit a more casual vibe, but still looked well put together.

It’s a really effortless piece to wear, and because it’s a one-piece, you don’t have to stand in front of your wardrobe for an hour pondering what goes with it – because almost anything does!

What’s more is that the £48 denim piece has a slightly tapered leg shape which is really flattering and you can turn up the leg if you want to wear the jumpsuit at a shorter length.

Other shoppers have been loving it too, leaving it five star reviews.

One wrote: “Have been looking for ages for a good fitting denim jumpsuit, this has been the most flattering by far! No horrible stiffness of fabric, in fact I would say it ticks every box – not forgetting such a reasonable price for the quality.”

Another shopper added: “Really love this jumpsuit. I’ve been looking for a denim one for ages that wasn’t really expensive. Very well cut and comfortable fabric. Good style and love the zipped front opening much easier than buttons. Will get a lot of wear out of this. Fantastic quality style and value for the price.”
