Kate Middleton has shown herself to be an “all-rounder” who followed Prince Charles’ advice to take her time to emerge as a Queen-in-waiting said a royal expert.

The Duchess of Cambridge came to the fore at a community carol service over Christmas where she took centre stage showing off her piano skills at Westminster Abbey.

Her confident performance at the Royal Carols: Together At Christmas, staged for people supporting their communities during the pandemic, showed how far she has come as she approaches her 40th birthday on Sunday.

She has gone from someone in the royal shadows to now being comfortable in the limelight, said royal commentator Ingrid Seward.

“Today there is definitely confidence and poise there. She has learnt to overcome her shyness,” said Ingrid, who felt that Kate had taken on advice from her father-in-law.

“On the advice of Prince Charles, you don’t have to rush into taking on hundreds of charities, you can take your time and enjoy your family, and I believe having her family has helped her gain confidence.”

Ms Seward also pointed out how Kate was always very capable from when she was a child and excelled in different activities.

“But while it is not in Kate’s nature to push herself forward, she has always been very competitive, since her school days when she played in the netball and lacrosse teams,” said Ingrid.

“From a young age Kate was an all-rounder.”

Kate has spoken of how she had a happy upbringing with her parents Carole and Michael Middleton along with her siblings Pippa and James.

Ingrid singles out Carole Middleton for ensuring that Kate was the “all-rounder”.

She said: “Kate is a product of her mother, she was brought up to do everything to perfection. She learnt to sail as a young girl and rock climb and ski. She loved cooking, dressing up and making clothes. She learnt the piano, her father taught her to play tennis to a high standard.

“All these skills came because her ambitious mother encouraged her to learn them. There’s nothing she can’t turn her hand to.”

Now Ingrid believes that Kate has emerged perfectly to take on the responsibility of being Queen one day.

“She is patient, and has the ability to listen,” said Ingrid.

“And she has discovered she has this ability with people, she is very good with the very young and the very old. That is like Diana was.”
