A hairdresser hit her boyfriend with a vase and poured fabric conditioner over him after a row about his ex during their engagement party.

Angela Fyfe, 34, flew into a rage and struck Fraser Blair over the head with the ornament before covering him in the blue washing liquid.

The pair had been celebrating their engagement with friends when the argument blew up, the Daily Record reports.

After Fyfe’s arrest, the couple reconciled but have since split up.

Fyfe appeared at the city’s sheriff court on Friday and admitted assaulting Blair on February 13 at her home in Tranent, East Lothian.

Fiscal depute Alan Wickham said it was about 3.20pm during the engagement celebrations that Fyfe started talking about Blair’s ex-partner.

Mr Wickham said Blair became “uncomfortable” at the gathering and left with a pal while Fyfe went to bed at 6.15pm.

The court heard Blair returned to the home to find Fyfe had locked him out and shouted for her to let him have his jacket and keys.

Mr Wickham said Blair smashed a glass panel in the front door to let himself in and Fyfe came downstairs “shouting and swearing”.

A confrontation ensued, he said, and Fyfe “grabbed a purple vase from a set and hit (Blair) over the head”.

The prosecutor said Blair smashed the vase to prevent it being used as a weapon.

He said Fyfe took a bottle of fabric conditioner and poured it over Blair before both parties called police at 6.40pm.

Police officers who arrived at the address found Fyfe “intoxicated and upset” and she was charged.

Mr Wickham said Fyfe was driven to St Leonards police station in Edinburgh during which time she made derogatory remarks to officers, calling one a “f*****g Polish b***h” and spitting on the vehicle’s cage.

The court was told Fyfe later coughed towards Pc Alan Clark in a holding area at the station after refusing to put on a mask.

Fyfe also pled guilty to charges of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner during the journey to the station, including making racial remarks, and assaulting Pc Clark by coughing at him.

Defence agent Andrew Docherty said his client was “deeply ashamed of her behaviour and embarrassed”.

Mr Docherty said Fyfe and Blair had reconciled after the incident but the “relationship had not lasted” and they’d split a number of months previously.

Sheriff Nigel Ross told Fyfe she “seemed to have learnt your lesson from this”. He fined the first offender £395.
