The girlfriend of a young sailor found dead at a British naval base has written a heartbreaking tribute in his memory, saying she will “never forget” him.

The body of engineering technician Stephen Cashman was discovered at Faslane Naval Base in Scotland on Thursday afternoon, with police called to the scene.

Officers are currently treating the 25-year-old’s death as ‘unexplained’ pending the results of a post mortem examination, reports the Daily Record.

Faslane, the home of Britain’s nuclear weapons, on the Gare Loch, is one of three operating bases in the United Kingdom for the Royal Navy and is the navy’s headquarters in Scotland.

Royal Navy chiefs yesterday confirmed Stephen, who is understood to be from the Liverpool area, had died.

His devastated girlfriend Faye Walker has now written a moving tribute to him and vowed to keep his memory alive.

She said: “I will always get that shop you always told me to get boo. I will get that first in uni that you always knew I’d get.

“I’ll buy our dream home we started saving for. I’ll keep my appointment for our tattoos and get my bloody driving license.

“I promise I’ll walk Bear when I can Ino how much she meant to you. I will never Lilahy forget you. I mean how can I?

“She doesn’t shut up about you best stepdad in the world to her even of a morning when she runs in looking for you for her morning cuddle. She will know you’re here.

“I know your shoes will walk me there every step of the way and they will travel with us everywhere we planned to go. I promise boo I promise.

“I will keep the motivation and ecstasy feeling you gave me every day in my heart to carry on. Even when I was at my lowest you was the only soul to ever get me through.

“I promise this isn’t sweet dreams yet. I know you’re with me forever and mine forever. For the first time in my life, I felt love and home in my heart.

“Thank you for being mine and your Lilahy’s world. We love you my guy, you won’t ever be forgotten. You won’t ever be lonely because I know that’s what hurt you most.

“I know you’ll hold my hand and keep giving me those signs. Every time I hear a rev I’ll know it you boo. I’ll still take Lilahy to see the cars for you. I’ll play our songs till the end comes.

A spokesperson for the Royal Navy confirmed the tragic death on Saturday and said their thoughts were with all those who knew and loved Stephen.

They said: “It is with great sadness that we can confirm Engineering Technician Stephen Cashman died on Thursday 9 December.

“Our thoughts and sympathies are with Stephen’s family and friends at this difficult time and we request that their privacy is respected.”
