Ghislaine Maxwell is being sentenced today (June 28) for her role in an elaborate child sex abuse case.

The long-time associate and former girlfriend of Jeffrey Epstein was found guilty on December 29 on five criminal counts.

Her crimes included sex trafficking minors and conspiracy to transport a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.

From 1994 to 2004, Maxwell enticed teenagers to Jeffrey Epstein’s properties, where the disgraced financier would sexually abuse them.

Now, the former socialite faces up to 55 years in prison for her crimes.

Throughout her trial, prosecutors focused on Maxwell’s relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

But both Maxwell and Epstein also had a relationship with Prince Andrew.

The Duke of York was barely mentioned during the trial, but Maxwell’s guilty verdict still thrust their friendship into the spotlight again.

Prince Andrew had a close friendship with both Ghislaine and Epstein, for which he has been heavily scrutinized.

As his former friend faces sentencing, here’s how Prince Andrew knows Ghislaine and the accusations he’s faced in relation to Epstein’s trafficking ring.

In his infamous interview with BBC Newsnight in 2019, Prince Andrew revealed that he’d known Ghislaine Maxwell since her university days when she attended Oxford.

Their friendship quickly bloomed and in the late 90s, Andrew and Ghislaine were regularly spotted together as they operated in the same social circles.

In February 1999, Andrew and Maxwell traveled to Epstein’s private Caribbean Island together on the financier’s private jet.

Later that year, Andrew hosted Maxwell and Epstein at Balmoral, the Queen’s estate in Scotland.

The following year, Andrew and Ghislaine are reported to have taken many trips together, including visits to New York, Florida, London and Thailand.

In 2000 Andrew also hosted Maxwell and Epstein at the Queen’s Sandringham estate for what he described as a “straightforward shooting weekend” during his 2019 Newsnight interview.

Paul Page, a former royal protection officer, said that Andrew and Ghislaine were so close that Palace staff believed they were dating.

In a documentary on ITV, Page said: “From the way she was allowed to enter and exit the palace, at will, we realized … suspected, that she may have had an intimate relationship with Prince Andrew,

“A colleague of mine remembered her coming in four times in one day from the morning till the evening — she kept coming in and out, in and out.”

As Ghislaine faced trial for her involvement in Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking ring, Andrew was embroiled in his own child sex scandal related to the late financier.

The prince has recently settled a sexual assault case that was filed against him by one of Epstein’s victims, Virginia Giuffre.

Virginia accused Andrew of sexually assaulting her on three occasions while she was 17 years old.

Andrew has repeatedly denied the allegations and the civil case ended in March when he paid a financial settlement to Giuffre.

The out-of-court settlement was not an admission of guilt.

The amount paid in the settlement hasn’t been revealed, but it was reported that Andrew had also agreed to make a substantial donation to Giuffre’s charity in support of victim’s rights.
