Prince Charles and his son Prince Harry seem to have had a rocky relationship of late – but there appear to be signs that Charles wants to put this behind them and make a fresh start with Harry and wife Meghan Markle
One year has passed since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sat down with Oprah Winfrey for a bombshell chat about their time as working royals.
In it, they opened up about many members of the Firm – with Harry accusing his dad Prince Charles of cutting him off financially and not taking his calls.
Even after the explosive chat, he appeared on the Armchair Expert podcast, where he lashed out at Charles’s parenting and talked about “total neglect” on the Apple TV series The Me You Can’t See.
Later reports claimed that relations between the pair were at “rock bottom” – but recently there have been signs that Harry, Meghan and Charles could be ready to bury the hatchet. Here we take a look at them…
full of praise
One of the first signs that Harry and Charles’ relationship could be improving was just a few days into 2022.
Charles wrote an essay for Newsweek, where he issued a call for urgent action to save the environment.
In the piece, he praised both Prince William and Harry for their work in raising awareness of the issue.
He spoke about how he was proud of both of his sons for having “recognized the threat” of climate change.
He said: “Most recently, my elder son, William, launched the prestigious Earthshot Prize to incentivise change and help repair our planet over the next ten years by identifying and investing in the technologies that can make a difference.
“And my younger son, Harry, has passionately highlighted the impact of climate change, especially in relation to Africa, and committed his charity to being net-zero.”

Shortly after the Newsweek essay was released, the Mirror revealed that Charles had held several “good-natured and enjoyable” video calls with Harry.
Sources close to Charles said that despite reports of the two not speaking, Charles and Harry have been on “a journey of rediscovery” in terms of their relationship.
One said: “The Prince of Wales has spoken to his son frequently in recent months.
“He loves him very much, as he does both his children, and he looks forward to them being able to spend time together in the near future.”
And it seems these video calls might not be a one-off for Harry and Charles and it’s been suggested they talk regularly.
That’s because, writing in the Telegraph, royal expert Camilla Tominey claims that “Prince Charles is thought to be in regular contact with his youngest son.”
However, she added: “Whether Meghan will ever return to the UK remains to be seen.”

Meanwhile, it has also been reported that Charles offered his son an olive branch by offering him an invitation to stay with him the next time he brings his family to the UK.
The offer of bringing the family together for the first time since Harry and Meghan decided to quit their royal roles and set up home in California was made by the heir in the lead up to Christmas, it is understood.
But Charles’s good-natured plan, in an attempt to heal the rift between him and his son, has been thrown into doubt after Harry suggested a return would come at “too great a personal risk” due to his security situation.
Meanwhile, another sign came on Tuesday when eagle-eyed royal fans spotted a touching photo of Meghan Markle who has pride of place in Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall’s home.
Camilla welcomed three female rowers, who crossed the Atlantic in record time, to Clarence House – the London home she shares with Charles – to mark International Women’s Day.
They were joined by former male rower Tim Christian and were pictured chatting with Camilla in a sitting room at the royal residence.
Behind where the guests were sitting, royal fans noticed a side table that was filled with lovely family photos.
And one of them included a stunning black-and-white image of Meghan with Charles on her wedding day in 2018.
When Meghan married Harry, Charles escorted the bride halfway down the aisle of St George’s Chapel in Windsor – and the framed photo appears to depict this.
