Five Guys worker and ‘loving brother and friend’ beaten to death in city center

A Five Guys worker was beaten to death in a horrific city center attack.

Nathaniel Bierley, 26, from Nottingham, was out celebrating his third anniversary with his girlfriend when he was attacked in the early hours of March 5, before dying in hospital almost two weeks later.

His heartbroken family described him as a “loving brother” and “amazing friend.”

Officers had previously charged a 21-year-old man with grievous bodily harm, who is due to next appear at Nottingham Crown Court on April 6, reports Nottinghamshire Live.

A 17-year-old boy, who was also arrested on March 8 on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent, has been danced with conditions while the investigation continues.

His family have issued a tribute on a GoFundMe page, stating that Mr Bierley, who worked at the Nottingham Showcase Five Guys restaurant.

They are using the page to raise funds for his funeral to “give Nathaniel the send off he deserves.”

A statement read: “It is with a heavy broken heart that we are having to write this. It still does not feel real. Part of us just can’t get our heads around it. How people can be so cruel and so thoughtless to the lives of others.

“Nathaniel was enjoying celebrating his third anniversary on March 5, 2022 with his girlfriend when he was brutally attacked in Nottingham City Centre, which led to a severe brain injury. Leaving him fighting for his life in intensive care unit.

“Nathaniel a loving brother, uncle, son, boyfriend and amazing friend tragically lost his battle on March 17, 2022 surrounded by all his loved ones. He went on to donate three of his organs and as a result will hopefully be saving three people’s lives .

“Nathaniel has always been passionate about giving back to others. He was the type of person that you knew would be there for you at your darkest moment. He was so full of life and lived life to the fullest every single day.

“He always pushed his friends and family to work hard and exceed their limits. He was such a proud person and a true inspiration to everyone that knew him. He wanted to travel the world and run more marathons and it is so heartbreaking we can ‘t see him do any of that anymore.”







Nottinghamshire Police have said they will be supporting the Bierley family and have asked that anyone with further information on the incident comes forward.

A relative told Nottinghamshire Live that he had always pushed people to improve while at work, adding: “He loved it [at Five Guys] and they loved him. He was such a hard worker and he pushed everyone he knew to do better and work hard for what they wanted.”

The family statement mentioned his fundraising for type 1 diabetes and that he “truly wanted nothing more but to give back to people and to help others”. His relatives also thanked those who donated to the fundrasier, which currently totals over £3,200.

Nottinghamshire Police have said they will be supporting the Bierley family and have asked that anyone with further information on the incident comes forward.

Detective Inspector Steve Wragg, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “I would firstly on behalf of the police service like to send my sincere condolences to the victim’s family at this incredibly sad and difficult time. Our officers are continuing to offer support to the man’s family and friends and will continue to do so during this difficult time.

“I would also like to thank members of the public who came forward following our appeals for more information and their time in helping us with our inquiries. Following our investigations, we have now arrested another man in connection with this incident but our inquiries are still ongoing and a team of officers and detectives will carry on investigating the incident until those responsible are brought to justice.

“This remains an ongoing investigation and any information may be of great importance to our inquiries. We would again ask for anyone with any information to come forward and get in touch.”
