Covid-19 data has skyrocketed in the Basque Country with a worsening of all indicators and with a total of 18 people died between November 22 and 28, more than three times the previous week. The Basque Autonomous Community touches the conditions for a return to activate the health emergency.

The Minister of Health, Gotzone Sagardui, has assured this Monday in an interview on Radio Euskadi that it is possible that the Basque Government activates the health emergency before reaching the 50 beds in ICUs.

The Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu has held a meeting this afternoon with the entire management team of the Department of Health and Osakidetza to analyze the evolution of the pandemic and its impact on the health system. Accompanied by the Minister of Health and some thirty heads of directorates and managements, he has shared a “worrying” vision of the evolution of the pandemic.

In hospitals there has been an increase in coronavirus patients admitted to the ward, which this past Sunday rose to 214 (35 more than in the previous report on Thursday), and also in those admitted to ICUs, a total of 47 this past day (11 more), according to the latest data from the Department of Health of the Basque Government.

The cumulative incidence it has grown and amounts to 471.56 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days, almost 100 points above that registered in the previous bulletin, made public last Thursday. This average is widely exceeded in Gipuzkoa, where the rate is 807.26 cases. In Álava it is 370.37 and in Bizkaia it is 281.02.

Municipalities with more than 150 cases

Euskadi already has 177 municipalities that exceed a cumulative incidence of 150 cases and therefore must apply restrictions to avoid contagion by agglomerations, that is, 26 more than last Thursday, including the three capitals.

Of the 251 Basque towns, 70% of which already exceed the accumulated incidence of 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days.

In these 177 municipalities, the municipalities must suspend or delay activities where an agglomeration of people is expected and it is not possible to guarantee preventive measures, especially those related to the intake of food and drink.

Classroom situation

A total of 188 classrooms are closed this Monday in the Basque Country after detecting cases of covid-19, 24 more than last Friday, although there is no center with its face-to-face educational activity suspended. However, 86 have some class closed due to the pandemic, four more than on Friday.
