Enjoy a satisfying SPAM® Breakfast with these fantastic dishes


SPAM® Appreciation Week (7-13 March 2022) brings together fans old and new from all over the UK to share their love of this iconic meat. This year it’s all about enjoying a ‘satisfrying’ SPAM® Breakfast.

It’s time to put some breakfast sizzle into this year’s SPAM® Appreciation Week! Made from a minimum of 90% shoulder pork and leg ham, uniquely tasty and versatile SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham can be sliced, diced and sizzled in the frying pan or on the grill to make delicious, quick and easy breakfasts.

From SPAM®bled Eggs and a traditional fry up to the more adventurous SPAM® Huevos Rancheros or SPAM & Eggs Benedict it’s time to get the can out of the cupboard and start the day a SPAMTASTIC™ way!

Here’s some breakfast recipe ideas to get SPAM® Appreciation Week off to a ‘frying’ start:

SPAM® Ranch Eggs

Serves up to 4-5 people



SPAM® Huevos Rancheros Breakfast

ingredients

1 x 340g can SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham, cut into 2 cm cubes
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 medium onion, finely chopped
Half green pepper, seeded and sliced
Half yellow pepper, seeded and sliced
1 red chilli, seeded and finely diced
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 x 400g can chopped tomatoes
4 large organic eggs
salt and freshly ground black pepper
fresh chives, snipped

method
1) Heat 1tsp of Olive Oil in large ovenproof frying pan, stir in SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham (cubed) for approx 2-3 minutes, remove and drain on absorbing paper

2) Heat a further 1tsp of olive oil

3) Sauté the onion and pepper, and chilli (reserve some of the chilli for garnish) and fry on a medium heat for 4-5 minutes until softened but not coloured, stirring occasionally

4) Stir in the oregano and the chopped tomatoes and bring to the boil. Turn down the heat and simmer for 5 minutes until the peppers are tender and the sauce is slightly reduced and thickened. Season to taste

5) With a wooden spoon, make 4 holes in the tomato/pepper mixture just large enough to fit the eggs

6) Carefully stir in cubed SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham to mixture

7) Carefully crack one egg into each hole

8) Season the eggs and bake in the pre-heated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the whites of the eggs are set but the yolks are still runny

9) Scatter over chopped chives and the remaining chopped chilli and serve straight from the frying pan to the table
Serve with warm crusty bread

ingredients

1 x 200g tub or can of SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham

3 x large eggs

3 x tablespoons milk

2 x spring onions – finely chopped

salt and pepper to taste

15g butter

method

  1. Beat the eggs, milk and salt and pepper together in a mixing bowl

  2. Fry cubes of SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham, turning until golden in a dry frying pan. keep warm

  3. Melt butter in a frying pan on a medium hot heat, sauté the spring onions lightly then add the egg mixture

  4. Scramble with a spatula until still soft and glossy

  5. Add SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham and mix

  6. Serve with extra black pepper

And, of course, SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham is a perfectly alternative to bacon, bringing extra meaty succulence to the traditional British breakfast fry up!
