A 16-year-old girl, from the Hamilton area of Leicester, has told how an elderly man told her she was “beautiful” as she walked home along a street and tried to grab her arm
A distressed 16-year-old girl has told how an elderly man tried to grab her in the street as she walked home having told her she was “beautiful”.
The college student said she overtook a man as they walked along Maidenwell Avenue, in the Hamilton area of Leicester, and then the man started to speak to her.
“I thought I heard ‘bus’, so I thought he might have been asking about when the bus was coming or something like that,” she told Leicestershire Live.
She said the man was “elderly” and thought he might need help but as he approached her she said he began behaving inappropriately.
The teen continued: “He said I was ‘so beautiful’ and asked my name and then he tried to grab my arm.
“I tried to walk away and just walked faster but he kept trying to catch up with me.”
She said she would never usually walk anywhere alone but thought it would be safe as it was still reasonably light outside.
“I just kept looking for someone I knew or thinking of whose house I could run to. I was just panicking,” she said.
The teen’s mum, who knew her daughter would be on her way home, drove to meet her halfway.
The woman said she saw the man as her daughter got into the car and “waved” before disappearing down a nearby alleyway.
She said she was angry when her daughter told her what had happened.
The mum and daughter now want to warn people to be aware after the incident.
Neighborhood officers from Leicestershire Police are asking for people to come forward if they have seen anyone acting in an “unusual manner in the area”.
The mum-of-two added: “As a mother, right now, I am just feeling very concerned and quite angry. I just wanted to get [my daughter] home straight away.”
