The general coordinator of eh Bildu, Arnaldo Otegi, announced this Monday that his training will vote in favor of the draft General State Budget (PGE) for 2022, as there have been “advances” in the negotiations in “the defense of the interests” of the Basque Country.
At a press conference after the meeting of the EH Bildu Political Board in San Sebastián, Otegi, accompanied by the spokesperson in Congress, Mertxe Aizpurua, announced the decision taken by the formation to vote “favorably” for public accounts from Spain.
The leader of EH Bildu explained that “sufficient progress has been made in these negotiation spaces to announce today that the Political Board of EH Bildu has decided to vote favorably on the accounts of the Spanish State.”
He has also explained that together with ERC they have worked on the “improvement” of these accounts, and in the “defense of the interests of Catalonia and Euskal Herria”, to which he added that “Podemos has contributed” as well.
In addition, Otegi applauded the “massive” participation in the demonstration called by the sovereignist coalition last Saturday under the slogan ‘Lortu arte’ in Bilbao.
Includes “three major political commitments”
For her part, the coalition spokeswoman in Congress explained that they have reached an agreement with the Government because includes “three major political commitments”, in addition to various economic investments destined for the Basque Country and Navarra.
Aizpurua has ensured that have achieved the commitment that the “social shield” approved to protect the most vulnerable from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic “be permanent by law”.
As an example, he mentioned that the future Housing Law will incorporate the suspension of evictions of vulnerable homes without a housing alternative, “as well as the temporary postponement of the payment of the rent of the rent” in the case of people in situation of economic vulnerability.
Aizpurua has indicated that the social protection measures included in said “social shield”, currently extended by decree, will become permanent when incorporated into the laws, so that “they will be rights acquired by law.”
Another of the commitments will facilitate that before the end of 2022 the emission of ETB3 will be ensured (a public channel in Basque with children’s content) throughout Navarra.
The national deputy has indicated that this is a “great step forward in the normalization of Basque”, since all children in Navarra will now have the possibility of “growing and learning” with content in the Basque language.
After recalling the economic and territorial amendments agreed with the Government and approved last week, with investments in Cercanías, for the recovery of the Sestao blast furnace, improvements on the coast, the creation of a cycle route between Irurtzun and Agurain, the EH Bildu spokesperson has reported another “package of unknown measures that will be approved this week in Congress.”
