This Morning: Woman spends £4k on her dog for Christmas

A dog owner revealed she has spent £20,000 spoiling her pet and says it makes her happy.

Alisa Thorne from Pontypridd in Wales showed off the vast selection of gifts she bought for her dog Fabio, a one and a half-year-old Chinese Crested Powderpuff, as she joined ITV’s This Morning live from her home.

Viewers were left bewildered when she said she’d spent £4,000 on her dog for Christmas.

Alisa, who could be seen during the interview with her pampered pooch, showed off a selection of gifts that included custom-made outfits and toys, as well as jewellery encrusted accessories worth thousands of pounds.

She even created a grotto for him in her garden complete with a Christmas sleigh and a tree covered in dog baubles, Wales Online reports.

Speaking to presenters Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary on the amount she spent, Alisa said: “His name is Fabio and he’s a one and a half-year-old Chinese Crested Powderpuff, and he’s the love of my life.

“He’s my world and my life revolves around him.

“It wasn’t until I was doing this show that I actually added it up and it came to £20,000 over the course of the year, and I’ve spend £4,000 on him for Christmas this year so it’s £20,000 in total.

“Fabio and I go on a three-mile walk every day because I’m very athletic and so is he, but if I go into the centre of town shopping I don’t want to leave him at home ever, so then he goes in a lovely red pram.

“He goes into places like Boots in Cardiff, and everyone’s like ‘hello Fabio’ and they all know him.”

Alisa went on to show gifts such as a £1,250 bow tie made from James Hare silk and Swarovski crystals, before Dermot asked what the reaction of people was like when they find out how much money she spends.

She explained: “Everyone knows I am a big charity worker as well, I give a lot to charity. I like to spend money on my dog because I have no children.

“What changed my life, my mum was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and she had six months to live.

“She was well and fit and happy and all of a sudden life was snatched away from her and me.

“It changed my perspective on everything and from that moment on I thought ‘you know what there is so much doom and gloom in the world and this actually makes me happy.'”
