company criteria

From this Wednesday, April 20the masks will not be mandatory in the workplace, but the occupational risk prevention services of each company can impose its use, depending on the ventilation, the distance, the type of activity or the characteristics of the workforce.

All the criteria to be taken into account for the risk assessment report of the companies are detailed in the nineteenth update of the “Procedure for action for occupational risk prevention services against exposure to Sars-Cov-2”, published by the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, Inclusion and occupational health professional associations.

These are the elements:

  • adequate ventilation
  • occupancy level
  • Maintaining an interpersonal distance of 1.5 meters
  • dwell time
  • Exercise
  • Temperature and relative humidity conditions
  • Use of common spaces (changing rooms, dining rooms, etc.)
  • Shared private means of transport
  • Existence of vulnerable people in the workplace

The document recalls that “in the work environment and in general, The use of a mask will not be mandatory. as established this Wednesday by the royal decree that has relaxed the rule of indoor masks.

“However, the risk assessment of the job will be the activity that will allow a decision to be made on the appropriate preventive measures to be implemented, including the possible use of masks if this is derived from it,” completes the text of the Procedure.

To this end, the occupational risk prevention services will advise the company’s management after “gather the opinion of managers, middle managers and representatives of the workers”.

Workers in health, socio-health and transport centers

In any case, the mask is still mandatory for workers of centers, services and all health establishments according to what is established in Royal Decree 1277/2003, which catalogs more than a hundred, from hospitals to health centers, dental clinics, assisted reproduction, physiotherapy, pharmacies or orthopedics, among others. Likewise, Health recommends maintaining the use of the mask at working people who are vulnerable to severe COVID, “in any situation where you have prolonged contact with people at a distance of less than 1.5 meters.” This is for, for example, those over 65, immunosuppressed, people with risk pathologies or pregnant women.

In the same way, it is recommended for “working people related to vulnerable, institutionalized or home environments”.

As has already been the case since the end of March, when the new covid control strategy started, the guide recalls that confirmed cases mild and asymptomatic and close contacts should not be isolated or quarantined, but it does recommend that they take extreme protection measures such as the use of the mask and avoid interaction without it with vulnerable people during the 10 days after the onset of symptoms.
