Former Dancing On Ice winner Sonny Jay Muharrem has revealed the results of his incredible 12-week body transformation. Training and competing for the ITV skating competition saw the 28-year-old in good shape.
However, after the series ended, and the grueling weeks of training were over, Sony realized it had taken quite a toll on his body: “I just crashed after the show,” he said. “I was taking supplements and I was doing so much exercise, I thought I needed to give my body a rest.”
As the co-host of Capital Radio’s Breakfast Show, Sonny starts his working day at 4am and soon found his old habits creeping in, like tucking in to the tasty sausage sandwiches from the staff canteen, and quickly noticed changes that he didn’t like . “I wanted to get back to that feeling I had after the show of being happy with my body. I want to feel good and look athletic and healthy,” he said.

The former Loveable Rogues singer therefore embarked on a 12-week program at the start of the year to overhaul his nutrition and fitness regimen and he has since shared the results on Instagram.
Sharing a side-by-side before and after snap, Sonny wrote to his followers: “This is probably MY WORST nightmare having to post this. Someone who has never really been ‘body confident’. The fittest I’ve felt in years was being on Dancing On Ice last year.. skating 7 days a week with lifting.
“As soon as the show finished it felt my body just needed a break. That break turned into 9 months of not working out once. Hence the picture on the left.”
He added: “Since January I’ve been lucky enough that @munchfituk and @virginactiveuk gave me the opportunity to kick start back into the gym with 3 months worth of nutritional meals and training with @al.exe.dwards 3 times a week. Alex has given me so much confidence in and out of the gym.
“I said to him I just want to look good in t shirts and he’s helped me achieve so much more than I thought was possible. I can’t wait to carry on in the gym to see how much more progress I can make in another 3-6 months.”
Along with shredding fat and building muscle, Sonny Jay hoped to dramatically reduce his metabolic age: “When I first did the Boditrax machine, it really shocked me, as my score came out at 38.”
Having started the program weighing 83.7 kgs. (13.19st), he has slashed his metabolic age down to 30, knocked an entire point off his BMI, and lost 2.4 kgs of pure body fat, while gaining 1kg in muscle mass. “The last few weeks have been good,” he said. “I really feel like I’ve progressed as I’m achieving my personal goals such as bodyweight dips and pull ups, which I could never do before.”
He’s also had to invest in a hole puncher for his belt, because his waist has shrunk by almost five inches, all of which has boosted his confidence, and with both his quads and his calves having gained an inch, Sonny joked: “Yeah, I’ll be getting those out in the summer.
“I’ve had to put an extra hole in my belt. I’m also starting to fit into clothes I haven’t been able to wear in years and I also feel more confident just wearing a T-Shirt. I used to hide under oversized T-shirts, I won’t anymore.”
His fiancée, Lauren Faith, and his colleagues have also taken note of the change: “Everyone at work has noticed that I have a spring in my step and I have been cheering people up around the office. I’ve definitely improved at my job ; for a lot of people I’m the first voice they hear when they wake up, so it’s important that I am energized and since starting this plan it comes naturally to me.”
And the compliments also flooded in on his Instagram post.
Fiancée Lauren said: “You absolutely smashed it!! The journey continues,” while Capital FM co-star Roman Kept wrote: “Gwarn kid.”
Former Emmerdale star Adam Thomas replied: “Gooooo on bro,” as Angela Egan, Sonny’s former Dancing On Ice partner, said: “Smashing it mate!!”
